Technical 1953 Mercury Monterey gas tank

A friend of mine stopped by yesterday, and asked if I knew of a fuel tank that would fit 1953 Mercury Monterey. He tried online search, but nothing is showing up for that year/model. Tank is pretty rotten, think Northern Ontario and salt, so rebuild of original will be quite consuming.
Does anyone know of another tank, that he can buy new, that can fit with slight modifications. Even if neck has to be re-positioned, if the tank is fresh and clean, welding would be safe and easy.
I don't have access to car, so don't have any dimensions at hand right now. I'm hoping someone else has done this change, and can steer us in the right direction.

 

Try the guys on FordBarn, they may have an idea

 

Thinking it'd be the same as a Ford. They shared the same body for the most part.
