My son's 31 in the works, he likes it unchopped without fenders and I agree. IMG_2653.JPG IMG_2658.JPG IMG_2657.JPG

Thanks for the pics. Seeing the grill shell unfinished and unobstructed by anything is giving me a good idea of what I'd like as well. Thinking of building my own that is shorter with just slightly different angles on the top part.

  3. I do not have a picture but I bet someone else does. The look that I'm thinking of is unchopped with just the splash aprons installed on a stock frame. The aprons add extra side width that balances out the tall roof.

The dip in the spreader bar appears to follow the bottom of the grill. That's a cool little detail.

That looks great. A buddy and I were having this conversation a week ago. He was saying chop and I said not needed. Not goofy at all.

Can't tell for sure, but it appears the top is filled in that car. Is it? I've been debating that too.

Motorcycle. I have something similar on my T bucket -- these are vintage Indian motorcycle. I use them for directional lights -- not sure they are bright enough for brake lights.

So much fun I am building another that will be a little more refined. I like a "chopped" car but "un-chopped" can look good as a hot rod too.

I will say this, Its your car, do it how you see it man.

Im 6'3 300 and i removed package tray, moved the stock seat back 6" and I actually have too much foot room. Great little thing to do to gain some room.. Someone said to get a lower seat and i agree, a 2"-3" chop is very minimal but will at least give it the look that i think you want. You never know you may find a set of fenders and slap em on anytime. End of the day man, enjoy the car, have a blast.

That's another reason I'm not super anxious to chop it. If I ever did put fenders on it, then I would definitely want it to be un-chopped.

I agree man.... Max i like with fenders is 2" ,Gives it a Buick, Packard, etc look at that point.... The cars from that era i absolutely love.... Hell I love my stocker A with a banger but i got a super clean set of fenders on it when i bought it. There are enough folks pulling cars apart just for bodies, Grab a roller chassis with fenders cheap, pull fenders and sell chassis.... Enough guys building speedsters that only need roller with no fenders.

Old cars were tall because men wore hats. Sit in the car and measure what you have for head room, consider a lower seat because your tray is gone, I'm guessing you can do a 2-2 1/2-3" chop. Even at 6'4" there's likely room. With all the suggestions to chop it that tells something. Model As are easy to chop, but keep in mind they're easy to fuck up too. The hardest job on an A chop is maintaining the rear window and sectioning the inner trim. Not that it's rocket science, just have to pay attention the whole way to get the right result. Sorry, I won't give you the cop out "...it's your car..." shit. On the stock frame with or w/out fenders 2-3" is the perfect A chop. Body mods are supposed to improve. All the 5-6-more chops, how's that traffic light thing when you're 1st in line? What's with the over cooked kidney bean look of the 1/4 window?

Chops should not "prove", they should "improve". Dig around and find designer art from the 30s that body builders used. In ink they're all looking like HAMB perfection but the realities tend to come out like, well, like a Model A. Hope this helps, and with a good helper you can chop it yourself. Have fun...

While I love the look of a nicely done unchopped A hiboy, and you really don't see many anymore . . . there is a reason so many are chopped. Get it right and it is just magic.

Here are a couple of my coupe. It was shown twice up above. haha. I am tall and big around so chopped and channeled cares aren't really for me. I did move the seat riser back 6" and took that much out of the package tray to make things roomier. The seat is pretty much stock for a 29 but I did however rebuild the bottom seat cushion with a set of shorter springs. There is 6" of z in the rear of the frame and with 4" drop axle, '32 cross member and a reverse eye spring to get the drop in the front. I think a lot of the correct look is the frame. I think Perimeter frames or 32 style ones look a bit better than an A frame. I built mine out of 2'"x4" box tubing.
