To screw with some hambers... nothing else.. but in 1961 nothing was a "bubble" top no matter what goggle says.
Its just like all the guys calling all the 1955-57 Chevy pickups "apaches" now. They didn't start those until 1958. The terminologies we grew up with are getting all mixed up now.

I don't know for sure where it started but I hever heard the term "bubbletop" used until the Wall Street musclecar whores started speculating on the value of 62 409 BelAirs.
I would like to see a picture of a :Wall street musclecar whore please. Just so I can ID one if I see her:confused:

6. Of course that's correct, George. But today, anything can be a bubbletop, I guess...60 Venturas, 59 -61 Impalas, Caddys, etc. Look for more soon...61 Plymouths and Dodges, Corvairs, Karmann Ghias..How about Borgward Isabellas? The term won't mean much by the time it's all said and done, and the 62 b.t. history will be washed away.:(
Sorry about getting away from the pictures, momentarily.

Some of the 61 Impala's had the same BIG back window (bubble top !) as some...of the 62's.
I had one for 5 or 6 years. I put a (sorta) big inch 409 under the hood.

Looks like Tony Bettenhausen's Marchese brothers car being unloaded at Indianapolis in 1946. Bettenhausen qualified the car but had engine issues and the entry was withdrawn. He ended up qualifying another car just two days before the race.

21. The old movie Ghost Of Dragstrip Hollow is well chronicled here on the forum, but I ran across this shot from the movie and thought it was sort of cool.

I'm pretty sure it you go to a Barrett-Jackson auction you'll run into one sooner or later and, more than likely, it won't be a her. It will be a him and he might know the current value
(inflated by others like him)
of a car, but he won't have a clue as to which end of the spark plug goes in the hole.

One interesting passing with tops in 1962. The Ford guys new the Chev guys were showing up at Daytona with Bel Airs and not Impalas. I can't remember which Ford team showed up with a 62 Galaxie with 61 top grafted on. Man did that look good and had a bunch more mph than the square top. Became illegal but I don't remember when... Somebody here will put a photo I'm sure.....

I believe you may be right on the Starlift-here is an ad for it. As an owner of a 61 Starliner I have had people refer to the car as a bubbletop a couple of times. I used to correct them but after telling like individuals who swore their friend had a 61 with a 406, I just seem to agree with them long enough to have them move on. I gave up arguing the
point (s) I suppose.
