I’ve used the mono expanding foam and bindi trick to fix holes in my winter beaters, car only had to last 3-4 months.

My buddy used to call it “ bye bye foam “
Cause you spray it in a hole, and the hole goes bye bye ! Lol

 

They could of at least put a lynch pin in the trailer hitch latch.

 

Do your best caulk the rest. This is NOT from a bathroom remodel. One of my recent projects had miles of white and clear silicone added.

 

This may hurt your eyes and brain cells, a chassis I got several years ago, pipe front and rear radius rods, smashed pipe rear shock brackets with an added screw to take up that extra gap, rear spring bracket, pipe steering column, that front spring mount is an engineering masterpiece in itself, as well as that carb adapter

 

i do hope you didn't pay much for that!!

 

57 283 with matching glide, Hurst mount, center section, econoline axle, correct rims and a foamy steering wheel. You have to open your eyes in a sand storm sometimes.

 

That would bring some bucks in that other current market we don't talk about here!

The middle picture here......there is level of "engineering" (in heavy quotations) that makes me keep looking at the details.
This isn't a case of crappy welds, someone actually spent some time thinking about building hitch and ball suspension, mounting the radiator sideways etc. Don't get me wrong it absolutely is a horrible idea but I have to wonder what it drove like.

Home drop front axle, torched off and then build the rest with weld. Made in California in the 50-60's , probably ran out of money when they paid for the chrome rear end...........

 

Welders, torches, etc. ought to be registered like guns and a license required to operate. Such license only issued upon passing a required minimum intelligence test. Hell! All tools for that matter. They can be more dangerous than a gun in the wrong hands.

 

That was pretty common on early stock cars....

 

This thread just gets better with time.

....and he found the steering kinda slow on his fresh purchase from CA roadster. Relocated split bone mounts along with a stock length arm cured it.

 

But...guns aren't registered except in certain big cities....

I guess this thread shows we aren't all professionals. A lot of these "farmer fixes" were common back in the 50s-60s. I think the hamb has upped the bar as far as building hot rods is concerned.

 

The scary thing here is some of us may have been on the road in the proximity of these disasters.

 

Actually sold the chassis, rear and this body to a friend's son that's a welder by trade. He cut it apart, welded it back together and made a nice little poly powered hot rod out of it all.

 

I bought this intake/carb combo, said he couldn't get it to run right.....must of been the harbor freight grinder box gasket...lol

 

The weld in the last picture in post two looks like a skull and crossbones

 

All to save about $120 in parts. I did not allow this out of the shop. It was all discarded.

We tossed the entire frame, too.



And yes, the bag fitting and line were on the bottom, travelling up and down, with suspension cycling.

 

How about a compression fitting on a brake line? This was done at a "reputable professional shop", before I fixed it.

Or this one. It was like steering with a rope. Shown next to the replacement.

Yes, that is FOUR points of flex, and a telescopic section. It has no support, save for being jammed against the header.

 

I remember in the 60s how to books showed using window screen behind bondo.

 

That air bag setup reminds me of a "forty footer" '64 Galaxie convertible that used to be local. I saw it, all nice and shiny, sitting on a used car lot so I just HAD to turn around and have a look.... yeah, nice and shiny.... heavy clearcoat with bugs and all in it. Interior trashed because the rear seat had been butchered to make room for the air pumps and bags.... open the trunk and most of the trunk floor is gone.. how many decent cars were trashed in THAT trend, I wonder?
