BTW, there are lots of those 53 -56 effies running around in the US that are not really mercury trucks. seems some just want be unique and stand out from the crowd. they found those had to find trim pieces and paid a whole lot of money for bieng unique. the hardest part to find is good ole clean tailgates, without the grain chute coming through the name.. lol.

Yeh, that brings up yet another breed of Fomoco trucks, that we see mostly in the US. We in the land of the muskox (wikipedia that !) call them "Fercury" trucks, shortened from "Fake-Mercury" or in French "Faux-Mercury".

Rumor has it the state with the highest "Fercury per capita" rate is Georgia.

Check out my Ferc... I mean Merc eh

This my Merc project truck. Just came home from being in stored in my buddies barn for four years. All the missing trim is inside the cab and the tailgate is in the box. Nice dry Saskatchewan truck.

There were different Meteors in the US of A but they are just a low-line Mercury in 60-61. Then there are the mid sized Fairlane based Meteors in 62-63.

Genuine Canadian Meteors were sold by Mercury dealers. My 61 wagon says Mercury on the registration even though it's not one.

49-61 Meteors were Fords with different trim. And some differences in engines too. For instance my 61 has a 332. Complete with it's original 1959 spec Holley 2 barrel and distributor. The casting dates on everything else are fall of 1960 so it isn't a leftover 59 Ford motor. A 352 wasn't even offered in it.

Mercury trucks were sold through the Mercury dealers, Ford trucks were sold through the Ford dealers. Plymouth dealers sold Fargo trucks, Dodge dealers sold Dodge trucks. According to my stupid spell check, Pontiac dealers sold God.

MSA MOTORS 1954.jpg Here is something extra to ponder. Mercury cars had 255 cubic in flatheads, Mercury trucks did not. The ran the same 239 as the Ford trucks, but management decided not to tell anyone, instead the Mercury truck engines were advertised by torque rating.
My father was a Ford-Mercury dealer and was to sell able both trucks.

We got Mercs cuz we so friendly. Even more so as of October 17th:D
BIL had a '46 Mercury panel truck for sale few months ago. Pretty rare. I got a '51 Merc tailgate, rare enough I shipped to buyer in Las Vegas. Scammer in Delta BC tried to get me to ship,,told me check in mail. I was suspicious, waited 2 weeks, nothing and no response from emails.
