Hot Rods 1955 Chrysler 330 hemi - worth buying?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HuskerNation, Oct 24, 2018.

  1. There's plenty of loose hemi engines out and about.

  2. If that car was local, complete, running and not badly rusted, for $2000 it would be sitting in my driveway...

    $2k for the car, yes.

$2k to get it for just the engine, no.

    I paid $1400 for TWO 354's.

...if all you want is a Hemi then give me a call. At $2k I've got plenty to sell.....
    Leave the car alone.

I totally agree with the rest of the gang.
Far too nice of a survivor to part out.

There’s no way you’ll get an apology so man up and take the knot out of your panties.

But it already HAS a ‘suitable’ engine......and that is as much a part of the car’s total character and appeal as it’s appearance.

I can put this all to rest.... the car was sold before I could go to see it. No need to worry anymore. I will just keep my eyes open for a good engine.

Btw what got me thinking of this all in the first place was when I also missed a 324 Olds engine a week ago for $250. It was supposed to have run too. I was partial to the Rocket Engine as I had a 56 Olds (more door) 88 and put a J2 -6 pack on it during high school. The gentleman I sold it to had it for 20+ years before I lost contact with him.

We ALL are entitled to our opinions no matter what they are. This particular car did in fact appear to be a nice car, key word being "appear". However for me personally a more door car has NO value what so ever other than the drive train. If it was in fact a running 331 then it is worth the 2 grand on it's on. Yes there are hemi's out there still, however the price is going up all the time. I have 4 of the things, 3 392's and one 354. I can truthful say I did not get a one of them any cheaper than this one.

Probably not a bad thing that it was sold.
There are plenty of sources for engines that don’t have to be ripped out of reasonably nice old cars.
A ratty , rusty old basket case car is a better donor.

My guess, a rusty old basket case had already gave up it's hart many years ago.

I wouldn't think twice about pulling the engine outta that grocery getter. It would roll off the trailer directly in front of the engine hoist.

You are, of course, correct. My post was hyperbolic, not literal, but was overstated in any case.

I was going to suggest you buy it and sell it for it's true value. Then take the profit and buy a Hemi but now it's too late. If that car sold for 2k it was a steal.

When I spoke to the seller it turned out it may not have been a pristine 33k mile original like it looked like after all.

While I didn’t get the chance to see it in person, the seller said it as part of a trade he made a few years ago. It didn’t sound quite as good as it looked and he had no idea if the mileage was original. It didn’t run well, brakes were bad, rust holes & bubbles in areas, and the interior front seat torn & wore out interior. She looked good initially but the morning after..... those panties were huge!
