Event Coverage The LaSalle Adventure

It's time....my brother David and I are heading out today for the LeMons Rally, down the Mother Road. We drive to Joliet, IL hoping to get there before Friday night, then leave Saturday morning on the rally. It will take most of the week to get to the west coast. Halloween is Wednesday night, we are scheduled to make a little detour up to Las Vegas.



The car is a 1940 LaSalle hearse/ambulance (Miller Duplex), that David bought about 30 years ago (this picture is from 1989). The engine was stuck at that time, he pulled the head off the side with the rusty spark plug, and it sat until this year, when pulled it out of my barn and tore the engine apart. It got a couple new rings, and new gaskets, and new freeze plugs, and that's all. It runs good, but it overheated--mice had got into the cooling passages in the block, and I didn't clean it out well enough and the radiator got plugged up. We finally figured out how to solve the problem, had the radiator rodded out and added screens to the inlet tubes. We'll see how well it works.

We should have left yesterday, there's a nice storm that we'll be driving in for a couple days. Oh, well. Rain-X and we got the driver side wiper mostly working. And siliconed a few big holes around the windshield.



We're working on the car, finishing up a few things like seat belts, oil change, lube, and packing all the crap that we remembered (not the stuff we forgot).

 

I hope the old girl gets you there and back.
