I removed the old mouse house headliner from my 47 Olds and there was a thick tar paper type material somewhat attached to the roof. It was very dried out and not really attached anymore and basically just fell out when the headliner was removed. What could I use to replace it? Is something like Dynomat a good replacement for it?

  2. I used the Dynomat in the Ranch Wagon, it worked great. HRP

I kind of figured it would make a good substitute, thanks for reinforcing that thought. ;)

I used the peel and stick, think that's what it's called. It's at Lowes in the flashing isle.

  5. @HRP, have you had any issue with delamination? I want to use Dynomat on my truck when the time comes but was concerned that the heat of desert would just cook it and cause it to fall off.

That's it, I was close. Think it's like $16 a roll, works great.

There is also the Frost King Duct insulation. It's also in a roll with an aluminum side on a rubber material. I used it in both of my Chevys. I put it on the floors and the inside of the car side of the firewall. It is a good substitute for the highly expensive product that is made for cars. It is in The Home Depot where the heating and cooling and duct work materials are. You will find some videos of this stuff too.

Just wipe down the the under side of the roof with some acetone or lacquer thinner first, the sound deadener will stick much better.

Short detour......will the adhesive-backed sound deadner stick to epoxy primer permanently?

Use the little roller they sell with the Dynomat and lean on it. It'll make the job look nicer, and it will make the adhesion better. I have never had an issue with it coming loose. Dynomat makes thin stuff for headliners, heavier stuff for floors and firewalls, and a cool vapor barrier sound deadener for the doors.

  19. You can make your own little roller with a 4 inch roller and a piece of plastic PVC pipe.

The seal and peel works good for floors, but it will eventually sag and detatch itself from the roof in hot weather.
