I've heard you should rebuild your original latches, which I tried to do. Spring kit I bought was junk, didn't fit correctly and I have some other issues with them. So, what is the best aftermarket ones to buy? I'm talking the original type like that is in there now. So many of these companies sell the same thing with the only difference being price. I don't want to end up with something with the same quality as the kit I bought.
There are at least 2 different styles of model A door latches that I have seen. Which one are you fixing?
I don’t have an answer for you. I my drivers door latch failed on the 29 coupe. I just stuck a piece of springy plastic in there. Looking for the proper repair. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Mine is a 28, I went on and ordered from Mikes A fordable parts. I looked a a few and they basicly looked the same and were priced the same. Mike's shipping is better than most, one wanted $47 shipping, that is crazy. There isn't much to them Rand Man, spring kit is like 5 or 6 bucks. That is if you can find one that didn't come from china. I may have a drivers side, if I don't, I have parts.
Everything I've got from him has been good, customer service is really great. Rand Man, I do have a working drivers side latch if you need it, I also got a new set of the rods that the inside door handle fastens to with the other end going to the latch. I ended up with 2 kits some way.
Scourge swap meets for nos parts, granted parts are getting scarce, post wanted on model a sites! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I found that the latches in a old ARMY Duse in a half were the same as the ones I needed for my 34 ford pick up. If you can find one in a junk yard some place. I.wish I had taken some pictures of then
Brattons has them PN 31961 RH and 31962 LH for about $30. Spring kit is PN 32060. I just rebuilt both for my '29 and it's not that hard.
I ordered them from Mike's, I got my left side rebuilt but the RS was worn pretty bad and the spring kit I had wasn't that great.
memory says there were different length arms depending on the length of the glass panels... they can be changed with drilling out 2 rivets...
Bought new latches (and striker plates) from Snyders Antique Auto Parts. Held the doors closed and tight even in my butchered model A coupe.
