Finally got it just about there. Good enough for some pics, anyway.
Started on it, taking over for Jim Laga (Kustom7777), when he moved to Austin TX. He disassembled it, blasted and primered it, and started doing some bodywork, mostly filling holes. When he moved, he recommended to the owner to bring it to me to finish.
Took a long time to do, but we did all the rust repair, a bunch of subtle Kustom work, pulled the engine, detailed it, and rebuilt the suspension, added disc brakes, power braking, AC, power windows, and some more goodies.
Bodywise, it is nosed, decked and shaved. I built a custom square tube grill, with matching trim on the rear panels. We used Lucas lights, and I made tail lenses to match. Fabbed scoops for the hood, with small square stock grills. Eliminated the back up lights, Frenched the license plate, and moved the exhaust to the rear pan. Tunneled antenna. Square stock grills added to the front bumper.
Paint is Candy Pagan Gold over Silver, with Metajules. The roof and body cove are slightly darker in color. Maroon pinstriping by Anthony White (00 Mack)
Interior is simple white R & P, over T Bird buckets, and stock back seat. Hand made a power opening console, to house the modern radio, and AC controls. Dash painted body color.
Engine is stock, it was a 9K mile car, so we didn't bother with engine or trans rebuilding. Chromed stuff on it, modern PS pump, with reservoir, and a scratch built air filter that matches the body shapes, and grill, as well as colors.
Unfortunately, the owner passed away suddenly, just a few months ago. he was very happy with the build up to then, it's a shame he couldn't see it finished. It will be up for sale, as family members are not interested.
To Kustom folks: Yes it was inspired by D'Agostino's Golden Starfire, but we steered the owner into doing a few things differently, to set it apart. 100_0766.JPG 100_0769.JPG 100_0771.JPG 100_0775.JPG 100_0774.JPG

X2 what has been said.......Somebody please tell me why 61 Oldsmobiles don't seem in high demand, as far a pricing. What a wild "one year styling"... I wish I could get one, but plate is too full.

Yes, I ( and my helpers) really try to think out our modifications. One of the great ways to make a car look 'together', is to repeat shapes, lines, or themes. On this build, you have the repeated use of square tubed 'grills'. The front grill, rear styling, hood scoops, the inserts in the front bumper, and front of the air filter. Another repeated theme is the shape of the rear quarter panel. An arrow-headed shape, with a peak in the middle. I used it to shape the air filter housing, the tail end of the hood scoops, and the rear part of the console. The console, up front, mimics the shape of the dash. 100_0566.JPG 100_0775.JPG

Very nice, but I am partial to 1961 GM cars. :)

I would Love to see this up close and personal! The color definitely grabs you and then all the other details hold it. The console sets off the interior and the scoop under the hood is the cherry on top. Well done, I'm sure that the owner liked what he saw. RIP, sir.

Went to a local cruise night, first time out, except for a gas fill up. Luckily, no one was parked next to me, on the side the sun was setting, and WOW did it show off the Candy Gold paint! Even took a trophy. 100_0781.JPG
