Loudbang, first let me thank you for all the great photos! I can add a little to this photo from your post #410. The actual photo is from May 1963 (although it may have been developed in Aug.) and was taken at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Maryland. The event was an NHRA National Record Meet. The Anglia was a brand new build owned and built by Gene Altizer. He set a NHRA National Record that day, only to have it rescinded due to the car not having rocker panels. AltizerAngliaMay63.jpg
Several weeks later, he added rockers and went to Atco, New Jersey and re-set the record. In the next few months he added fiberglass fenders and grille shell, and some paint and proceeded to go to the NHRA Nationals In Indianapolis and won the A/Gas class over a large field. Not done yet, he made it all the way to the final round of Middle Eliminator finishing as runner-up to Ohio George Montgomery.

My Anglia had the same "Britting Engineering" chassis as under the Kohler Bros. car along with a few others that ran at the time.
By todays (even 80's) standards, it was a horrible chassis. VERY simple, light weight , but VERY little rear axle/suspension adjustment.
A FUN car to drive though. It kept you on your proverbial toes..!
This shot (shown in other posts) is at the old Palmdale (SoCal) track.

  22. Looks like a little front end work might be needed on the "Heat's On" Anglia.

    Cool info.
Years ago, a friend had a nicely restored Anglia Panel truck. The little 1/4t, all actual Anglia till you get to the back of the doors.

Anyway, he was in his light, odd green Anglia panel, my girlfriend and I were in my 56 Chevy 210, heading to his house to see the trailer he was building for me for "my" Anglia (pictured above).
It was somewhat comical. Every bump, tar strip, almost rock in the road, caused there to be light visible between the rear tires and the road surface. A coupla times...even at the front.
I mentioned this once we got to his house...he smiled and said, "yea, it's a blast to drive on the freeway..!" (in the slow lane mind you !).

Was it an Anglia converted to a panel truck or was it one of the factory built Thames vans?
