In spare time, started pecking again at a project Chrysler scored last Spring; this tag on the Newport's inner fender is the closest thing I've found. The friend handed it to me with the keys, the paperwork being looked for.
Is the VIN hidden within here? There is a bald spot on the door jam where I've seen it on other Newports. Thanks for any help. 20180930_194457.jpeg

someone removed the tag you need, from the bald spot. Sounds like a problem, to me.

  4. Need to find out if there is a number stamped on the frame somewhere. Someone may be running around with a car with your vin tag licensed to it.

Vin should be stamped on the core support.

  6. I'm no mopar vin number expert but I don't think the bald spot was a vin number.
    it wasn't on these:

When I got this project, it had the front wrap of a '66 300 half-bolted on. I was able to swap wraps with a '65 Newp, but as the Newp was technically a runner, I left its core support/radiator alone, kept the '66 300 core sup.
If worse comes to worse, and that support has a vin somewhere on it...

This data plate is from a B body (station wagon 3 seats) and has nothing to do with a C body Newport.

Your suggestion reminded me of the orig owner stamped card I'd found in the service pocket of the '66 300s core support last Spring...from March 1966 received_1940191402659746.jpeg

He is a good friend, but I think there was a mix up...he had bought a different Newp to sell and this one had to go as part of the deal...he knew I'd tried for a Newp before, we friend-traded some projects. Guy he got it from replied earlier that the VIN tag itself went with the paperwork. That can hopefully be found. "We'll see" when my bud gets back from vaca. Thank you for the help here, even so.
