How about us old race car guys post some pics of cars they owned, drove or crewed on. thread might get flamed as most of us participated in any type after 1964 as I was 16 in 64, street raced some (64-70) there might a few left. I grew up in a racing family, participant into my 40's last active year 1991 ( Many Great Memories, Priceless) and came back to car hobby. A few of mine to get it started.

  2. I have crewed on a new old race car. LOL

The cars I crewed on in the '70s were late model and I don't have any pics of my old door slammer from when I was in high school. Wish I did.

HAMB Pic posts are the Best, I'm surprised, not much participation here, the Majority of car guys I know were involved in racing of some type. OLD Racer saying, "The Older We Get, The Faster We Were" LOL, it does not really matter as the years tend to blur the stories/fun/adventures together anyway. I'm happy I had the fore-site to document my history, figured, if I end up just another Old Goof at the bar and nobody believes me, I'll go home and get my pictures/articles. Ironically, I quit drinking in 1984, Now just an Old Goof in general and pretty versatile, can talk silly/stupid sober. LOL C'MON Guys POST YOUR PIC'S, I wanna see some history here

  14. My newest toy was is a race car built from '48 to '52 and raced both land speed and early drag from '52 to '55 or '56. Anyway I guess that it probably counts as an old race car. 4B42F833-1A08-4335-9181-B75E810460F9.jpeg DAEF049C-73E5-44A6-9DC5-61A72E40A354.jpeg 3716A660-6BB4-4D6A-ADED-8916DD278ED3.jpeg

Its really not much of a car but I like it, it makes all 5'9" of me look like a big man.

  15. I am too young (36) to have crewed on any H.A.M.B. friendly. But these are a few members of family have crewed for or built

My Great Uncle Don Wyel (In Car) crewed for Sam Car on this A.A.A. Big Car (Indy Car)

My father Willard crewed on Bill Roese's 1956 ford late model number 28 312 Y-block.

I probably should not mention this but the '64 Chevelle is probably my favorite Chevy, and I have owned a lot of Chevys. The post car is a unicorn (yea I can see that this in not a post car). I think they were the mainstay of southern short track racing for a while.

@Robert J. Palmer cool car by the way. You have a family to be proud of. ;)

PORKNBEANER Quote, I probably should not mention this but the '64 Chevelle is probably my favorite Car. Beaner, I also was a Chevy guy as a kid, 57 210 sedan, 56 Bel Air ragtop, 58 Impala Impala ragtop, 64 Impala SS, 65 Impala SS, a few Fords thrown in, Pontiac Bonneville rag top and a Plymouth Sport Fury, around 70, my first adult/family type car. My favorite Chevelle is 66/67, here in Wi. the Chevelle was/is the main car for the local Stock car class, still are using the Metric frame in classes including the IMCA mod type chassis I believe.

  18. Thank you for the complement.

A funny story about that car-

My dad built that car using a maroon two hard top 4 speed car. He had been driving a maroon 64 two hard top SS 4 speed that he traded for a brand new 1970 El Camino. He traded just before he started to build the race car. Since both cars were maroon 64 hard tops everyone in town was sure he cut up his SS for a stock car. Leading him to put SS badges on the dash.
He still has people tell him "I can't believe you cut up that SS for that stock car!"

Chet Rutlege driving Pete Crockers # 36 car before the started using # 3X.
Probably about 1964. Pete allowed us to use # 36 on our 54 Chevy Bomber
driven by Bo Hammond. These cars ran at Golden Gate speedway in Tampa Fla.

  25. I have owned a lot of '62-'64 Impalas, most of them I didn't own very long. No motor/tranny cars in that time frame could be had pretty cheap (actually not about half a weeks wages for me back then) and I always had a small block and some sort of transmission around. Toss it together cheap drive it for a week or two and make two weeks wages to add to what I had for the month. LOL

@wicarnut I bought a '64 SS car cheap in the early '70s. It was a 283 powerslip car from the factory. But it was a genuine SS car. I knew where there was a wrecking yard that had just got a '69 Z car in, the old guy told me I could have the entire wrecked Camaro for 35 bucks. I told him all I wanted was the engine and tranny. He said that will still be 35 bucks, you pull what you want and I'll keep the rest. The 302 4 speed made my little Malibu skoot. Cheapest hot rod I ever built and I am strictly a low budget guy. :0

If I could find a solid specimen that I could afford I would build another. It would probably be a 396 car though, I have most of a 396 and a '64 Chevelle would be perfect.

We came east from Oregon I a '67 327 4 speed car. It was a plain jane 2 door hardtop, all the way to the cloth bench seat, poverty cap plain jane car. It was a blast to drive.
