@olio mattore - Thanks for this one!
Getting through the gate at Ft. Detrick is somewhat more involved now. To say the least.

    Hello,

When we first moved to Long Beach in 1946, all we knew was a small trailer, about 10’x20’ in dimensions. The kitchen/dining table folded down to make our (two brothers) sleeping bed. Our parents had a small mattress in their separate bedroom. A small, airplane style bathroom and a small kitchen made up the rest. As little kids, 2&4, it was a giant playground until our mom "shooed" us outside for play, all day.

In the trailer court, were some larger trailers, but most of our family friends lived in the same small trailer as we did during this time. According to my mom, it was affordable and fit a family of 4 nicely. Actually, these small trailers were the most popular for a family of 2-4. Most of the time, unless there was some rainy weather, all of the kids were outside playing in the whole complex. It was trailers as far as the eye could see.

This is what we thought everyone lived in, during this first time in Long Beach. Trailers were all we could see when playing outside. What an eye opener when we saw real houses, like the old Craftsman style house we bought in 1948. (We had our own bedroom and a yard!)
