    Whoo Hoo. that is honking.

Somewhere in my photo archives I have a photo of Don and the car on the starting line on Thursday of the 1998 Speedweek when the clocks went out with the who's who of land speed racing standing around the car. Told some guys next to me that they had better get photos because there was more racing history standing there than they could ever dream of.

Awesome! What a great year on the salt. I'm really kicking myself in the ass now for not making it out there at all this year.

I kinda hoped Flashpoint would be the first 500 mph car. There can only be one first.

    Yes, congratulations.
I'm wondering where they found a driver. 500 MPH wheel driven, good grief.

That must warrant a real special hat...jeepers...that's just 100 shy of commercial aircraft cruising speed...unbelievable. Great job by all involved...

Done a little over 165 in a car, it's intense.

Wow! What kind of horsepower does it take to push a vehicle on wheels that fast?

Amazing accomplishment this may be the last barrier ever set by a wheel driver vehicle topping 600 may never happen. This years salt surface while not thick was similar to asphalt extremely hard even if it was only less than an inch thick. There may never be another year like this one on the salt.

  19. 500 mph is quite an achievment. Took a long time to get from 400 mph to 500 mph.
54 years ago the late Sir Donald Campbell hit 403 mph on Lake Eyre , Australia in his Bluebird. Also wheel driven with 4250 HP from a gas turbine engine. Just compare the size of the Turbinator to the Bluebird. Bluebird_CN7_cutaway_drawing_L_Ashwell_Wood_1964_Bonneville_tail_fin_air_brakes.jpg BLUEBIRD.jpg

It is a T55 turboshaft. So it is probably an Ex-Chinook or Ex-LCAC TF-40. They are 3500ish HP in the craft. I am sure they have it turned up though. Mabe close to 4000.
