I don't mean to start a sh*t storm or anything. This a nailhead with the new Hilborn EFI. It is just like the old mechanical ones except for the "brain". Would a build with this be disqualified? I just really like the idea and thing it works good and looks awesome.

    "disqualified"? from what? by whom?

If you dig EFI, it's a neat setup. Doesn't do much for me.

What is this, flipping High School??? "Do you think the other girls will like these boots???"

How about you post a tech article of how you built that Nailhead instead, maybe with dyno numbers or a time slip....

Kind of a strange question, but no EFI is traditional. Whether it's cool or not is a different question.

I like the nailhead part. If the EFI doesn't bother you why ask any one's opinion. Like the man said, this ain't high school:rolleyes: I would be interested in knowing about the nailhead build.

  11. Here in HAMBland, where a 4 door Packard can be a gasser, why would you worry about appearing "traditional"? It doesn't really mean anything...

I have a build thread started and I am going to use that exact system. If it is not in the spirit of HAMB then I don't want to offend anybody and will cease posting on that build but I will do what I want anyway. I just won't put it here. I like the community and appreciate the advice I have been given. I just saw that another build thread was deleted for using EFI with a throttle body set up. I'd use mechanical if was streetable.

  16. To the untrained Eye that is Old School injection. Is that a real Mag behind it? Unless you know to look for One wire or a red and black wire you wouldn't know. I say post it all up as you go just omit saying anything about EFI and move on. It's good enough for me but I'm only One Guy here.

Thanks Gary. I had no idea it was from there. I clipped the picture from the Hilborn website.

LOL - I suddenly had an image of BD Roth posting a question on HAMB, seeking consensus approval....

Hilborn injection on the street was pretty rare, so aside from being available back then, it's not too traditional. No offense to Tommy Ivo.

To the o/p; do what you want and just don't post the parts that sensitive folks do not want to see.

OP has a legitimate question, and it really can only be definitively answered by the Mods. Several have already correctly answered for the Mods . . . no form of EFI is traditional and therefore is off topic for this board.

And several have also answered correctly for the practical hot rodder, damn the torpedoes, build what you want, just don't mention the EFI.

Like me, worrying about whether my truck has a 3-speed or a T5....

  27. That's a good point. 'Traditional' does imply common usage, not that something existed or was used once.
Having said that, in your case the E in EFI is not traditional in any sense. But like many not obvious things, don't make a big deal about it or ask about computer management and it will probably fly. I know there is another one that has a pass here.

I hope to outline exactly what we are doing with the build. I bought most of the parts including roller rockers from TA Performance. Hilborn said their system takes a lot of cam and maintains idle so I got a TA 30 cam. I would like to dyno it before we put it in the car in the spring. Will keep you posted.
