Technical 64 Plymouth Fury Street Wedge 4 Speed Convertible

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Al T, Sep 22, 2018.

  1. Could someone advise a site where I could decipher the fender tag on a 64 Fury? Really looking for what code and where on the fender tag for a 426 Street Wedge and 4 speed transmission. Would the fender tag give rear end info as well?

    Thanks in advance.

I believe that tag will tell you everything.... Now, how about some pictures of the car.... :D:)

  3. Need to finalize the deal first..... then I’ll post some photos. It’s nothing to drool over right now. lol

The ABC position numerals on the tag are 143. 14 I’m assuming is the 426 Street Wedge, the 3 is a 4 speed? It’s surprisingly difficult to find decode info on this era of Mopar. I just want to confirm it is what it’s supposed to be, not that I have any reason to believe it isn’t.

    Thanks in advance.

  10. I saw the car a couple of years ago and am going back tomorrow to take another look and hopefully buy it. Are there any specific areas I should be looking for rust or other issues?

    Thanks in advance.

Check the cowl area fairly common to find rust in those areas. Send me a message if you want more info.

  12. Would the engine have the VIN stamped anywhere? This is supposed to be the original engine to the car. I’m assuming the assembly date of the engine is December 18th...... or maybe I’m completely off base????
If that is the assembly date, would this be correct date wise for the manufacture of the car?

There is a very good chance that is the right engine. V code would be right for '64. '65 started back over with A. Only the 365 horse 426 engines were marked H.P. Gene.

I can't remember what year they started putting the VIN on the block, but if it has one, it will be stamped just above the pan rail on the right side of the block.
The cowls probably rust more than any place else, but that leads to rust in the front floor and the firewall. The left cowl patch panel is available, but not the right side for some reason. I had to make one on a 64 Polara. I repaired the inner part of the cowl, front floors and then addressed the top of the cowl.

MaMopar did not stamp blocks with vin until 1968.

  16. Went and took a look at the car this morning and made a deal. Car is a lot more solid than I was expecting. Would anybody know how many Street Wedge 4 speed convertibles were built in ‘64........ or where I could find out?
Here are some photos from this morning.

Awesome score! I had a '64 Sport Fury hardtop w/426 street wedge. Man, I'd love to have that one back, been getting real nostalgic lately.

  23. Supposedly a previous owner had talked to him about the car and he said he had never seen one before and it could be one of 3 built.......... but that's just hearsay.

Thanks for the link to his site. I'll reach out to him.

I agree that it is a very nice score. My first performance car was a 64 Fury. If I hit the lottery it would be the first car I would buy-great looking cars for sure. Even better with the 426.

  28. Mmmm....I wonder why the pushbutton shift delete plate is missing from the left side of the dash. I wonder if someone was making a clone? I also noticed that on the floor shift car, the delete plate has three screws....not four like on the pushbutton car.... 1964 Plymouth dash.jpg

If you look close , the screws are actually in the correct place I think. The left are under the padding or bulge of the dash, and there appears to be a hole in the "notch" area of the trim on the right ....looks about where the third screw is on your pic
