Sorry to hear about the tough year! Glad to see you are out in the garage again. Sometimes when I am having a tough time the best therapy is to get to work and not think about it and that seems to help! Wondering if you would like to post a few pictures of the tools and cabinet? The car is sure looking top notch!

Well here is the box. The top I added last week. Dad had to buy this cabinet in the late 60's. I wasn't in school yet but old enough to remember when he bought it. I was born in 1963. He engraved his name in all the tools. Even every socket. I have a great amount of respect for Dad. And its been tough without him here. I wanted so much for him to get to drive this car when I finished it. Guess his tools will just have to be a part of building it. 0923181447_Burst01.jpeg 0923181448a.jpeg 0923181448.jpeg 0923181448b.jpeg

The red and grey chests are very well made! Glad to see that your dad is part of the build still even if he is not physically present. Does the chest have friction slides or roller slides? The early ones had roller bearing slides for a few years before they went to friction slides

It has the roller slides. And they still function as new. Not sure why they ever dropped the rollers for those cheap slides. I even have the key to lock it up. I have way more tools than Dad did but to me that box of tools are a treasure trove of his life.

I have an old hood needing a ton of work if I use it. I like the look both ways. Any thoughts? 0923181832.jpeg 0922181728_Burst01.jpeg

Make to where you can put it on when you want to, and run with it off when you don't.

  10. I like it with the hood top and the HEMI hanging out, but everyone has an opinion....

  11. Man I’m sorry to hear about your loses. Glad you have the memories and your Dads tools to build with. I too have my Grandfathers tools I always look at the wrench in my hand and remember him. Hobo Jim

So sorry about your Mom as well... Getting back to your Plymouth build will be good therapy to cope with your losses.

New grille was an excellent choice and like Glenn@AHotRod said, use the hood when needed. Shouldn't hide any HEMI unless it's really necessary - like on a rainy day. Besides, have not run a hood on mine from any day she was hitting the streets from all those years of ownership... Screams more HOT ROD without the hood!

Today I took my hood apart. It had been welded up where the hinge used to be. I realised It didn't line up well so I cut it apart and started over. I mocked it up putting a new piece of steel in the center. I then applied some fiberglass for added strength to the welded area. Lines up pretty good now even though its a solid hood with no hinge. Due to the height of my air cleaner I don't have clearance for a good stock hood anyway. The bracing underneath would hang too low. This one will have to do. Now for the hours of filling and sanding to straighten this beat up hood out. Its still nice just to be working on it again. 0925181540a.jpeg 0925181540b.jpeg

The hood and the hemi look awesome. It's coming along well. Sorry about your losses; working on your car will help with your healing.

  18. "340Power", looks like some great progress. Keep it up and trust me, it'll be more than rewarding in the end.
    Condolences.
While mine is a PB (different cowl and hood design as you undoubtedly know) I hope attached pics are helpful.

... me too, but my opinion might be slightly (perhaps appropriately?) biased.

Took a break from sanding and painted my grill yesterday. I was curious about my color choice. I like the contrast between it and the deep aqua primary color. 0930181247.jpeg

Headed out to work the rest of the week. The sanding is basically done with exception of a last go around on the hood. Sprayed a little color today. I'm so ready for this to be painted. I'm looking at October 20th weekend. 1008181348a.jpeg 1008181311a.jpeg 0930181247.jpeg 1008181348.jpeg

Just read through the whole build, awesome work! Looks better with the hood than without. Keep up the good work.

This is one great thread. When I go, I hope that my kids will have interest in the hobby. I got more tools than most auto repair shops, so they certainly won't have to buy much.
