Plain and simple, how does the wife want it to look? If it is going to be her car that's the only opinion that matters! Not the opinion of a bunch of guys on the internet. :rolleyes:lol But if it was mine, shave and deck the hood , trunk , add skirts, Lancer hub caps and since growing up in Milwaukee back in the early 60's all the Cruiser style cars like this had kits and twice pipes on them , I would keep the continental kit. Makes the car look longer and lower. My opinion is that a basic stock car that is just lowered and has a wheel or cover change is NOT a custom . just a nice cruiser. Now if I was building a custom , we would start with a 2 to3 inch chop and go from there.:D Larry

Well, she at least picked out the hubcaps she wants. 1953-55 Olds.
Oh and she says the Continental Kit is definitely going.

What would a Savoy grille look like in one of these?

Here is mine. Lowered 3" back with air. 1.5" spacers in front lowered it almost 3" Caddy bullets in stock lights. Soon going to do a custom grille and when I can Continental kit. And drive the wheels off of it 20180325_180534.jpeg 20180325_180511.jpeg

  18. Here comes the Chili Phil style tip. It's from that L.A. mid fifties to late sixties perspective, of course. Drop it a little in back, more in front, tuck and roll the package tray, get some nice round white wall tires, paint the wheels red and run several different full wheel covers, as fits your whim. Maybe Olds tail light lenses and a tube grill. Of course, shave all the badges and the bird-thing on the hood. Power train is up to you. You should know how you want it to drive.

Looking forward to this. Those cars were made for what you are doing. Tube grille looks good, I like 54 Pontiac too. A flake roof, skirts, nosed, decked, lowered and boom! you're done. I don't know if scallops and a flake roof are too much or not, but you will. keep us posted.

That's a great looking car. I just don't like the pink for the wife. The car I'm building now is a joint venture between myself and the wife, and I told her that under no circumstances can we paint the car pink or any variation thereof. I'm not like a snowflake, but I just think defaulting to pink for a woman's car does her and the car a disservice. As in it won't be looked at a serious Kustom car because it's pink and owned by a woman, or it will be"cute" or "nice for a woman's car.". A car painted a less stereotypically feminine color won't have that same reaction, IMHO.

Please no Bubble Skirts what ever you do. Remember less is always more The more crap you bolt on the worse it looks. Unfortunately too many folks never understand that.

I don't either. I think I will do all the lowering and remove the connie kit etc. Then stand back and look at it. I like the sanitary white, so I dunno.

I just keep seeing Jimmy Vaughn's white w/silver flake roof. White is the least appreciated color out there.

91F3CC92-E241-4299-BD7D-580342B5A866.jpeg The Double Nickel has undergone surgery.

Stage 1- Connie Kitimus Maximus removal. Not a very invasive surgery, but a 60lb mass was removed.
I took the bumper guards off as well to smooth it up.
