While there, we befriended a guy helping run the gate. I asked him if we could come back early the next morning to catch a sunrise on the salt.

Amazing cars, and photos of the hill climb.
Even more amazing, was the scenery, - some interesting rock formations.
    Thanks for posting.

Cory the car looks great on the salt.

After seeing the sunrise on the salt Monday morning, we had to get back on the road. Our destination was the greater bay area that night.

We made a stop in Sacramento to see Paul Garland's shop, then headed down toward the bay area for the night. The next day we got up, and went by a handful of friend's shops to see them before stashing the car and catching a flight home.

Overall, the 3,315 mile trip was awesome. The weather was great the whole time, and the car performed well. The only casualty was a tach drive key that rounded up (after 3 years of use), but I had thrown an extra in the map pocket back then, and was able to get it fixed.

    Too cool! Excellent trip.

Wondering about the 7.00 18's as I have a pair from the original batch you organised, but mine aren't in service yet! How did your first pair hold up mileage wise, and how are the new pair working out? I'll be running a stout smallblock so might not fare so well!

Awesome story, thanks. What gears are you running, and what was your cruising speed?

I had about 9,000 miles on the pair I took off. They would've lasted longer, but I took a little too much off of the crowns when I shaved them.

I mostly cruised at 75 mph, which equated to 2,400 rpm. This engine makes a ton of low end torque, and likes it there. We did run 85-90 mph for a long duration west of Colorado, and surprisingly pulled 20 mpg doing so!

My OD is 0.63, and the quick change has a 4.77 gear set.

The top consists of reproduction LeBaron Bonney '32 irons, middle bow and back bow. The header board is from Sid Chavers. I chopped the irons, and Sid made the cover.
