Hot Rods Wedding Cars!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jeepster, Sep 17, 2018.

  1. August 5th 1989 I used my 64 Plymouth sport fury along with my 66 Plymouth satellite. The other car was a 64 dodge polar 500. My fury was a regularly raced four speed. It would run low 11s all day long. That was fast for a street car then. When we were near the lake site for our wedding photos I got a burnout shot in. I arranged it a head of time with the photographer. The car was eventually sold to a guy in England but I still have the girl. We still race cars and cruise around in them. 20180920_223230.jpg

I'll find some photos, it was 40 years ago that we left the church in a friends 1912 Stanley Steamer. Bridesmaids were in a 1932 Ford Station Wagon, Mom & Dad in his '31 Roadster, Best man George in his '31 Chevy Vicky, Ben & Rachel in an MGTD 1500, and Bob & June in their 1940 Ford Station Wagon.

I have had the pleasure of using my car for 3 weddings now. Mine, my sisters and an old school friend.
This picture however was taken at a wedding before I purchased the car.

I seriously researched this for a business venture. I have been hired a few times (for free) usually for my daughter's friends etc. and I have wedding planners that say they can keep me busy every weekend. I checked into it and I couldn't get insurance for a very reasonable rate. Uber gets insurance because they have new cars. Anything over 5 years old and they don't want to insure. I had to talk with a speciality insurance company and the cost would far outweigh the returns, unless you had a fleet of cars and drivers doing multiple weddings. It might be a retirement gig and use it for a tax write off for my obsession......who knows.

Here is a picture of my first wife and myself in July of 1971 leaving the church in my grandfather's 1927 Stutz Blackhawk Speedster. Carburetor was sticking the day before he wedding and I worked on the car and my wife was upset that my nails were not quite perfect in the wedding photos when they took pictures of our hands with the wedding rings. I got a chuckle out of it-go figure. The black 1923 Packard touring car carried the wedding party. The Packard was stolen in the mid 80s and was never recovered. I am sure the car is around in some collection.

Brian, love the black 64 Sport Fury. As we have spoken in the past, I had as black 64 Fury that I wish I still owned. St Bl-5-1.jpg Stutz-4.jpg

My brother used his hopped up '62 Studebaker Lark (289 c.i. Stude V8 w/ 4 speed) for his 1997 wedding. Note the row of Studebakers behind. 20181007_070247.jpeg

My restored antiques have been in many weddings over the years. Recently We went to a family friends wedding in tour stocker roadster. My wife made a sign and the bride and groom loved it and made it a part of their pictures. I also gave the wedding party and family as well as the there kids some rides. They loved it and I was happy to be a part of their day. I also used our ‘50 Chevy for my own wedding. It was a blast. I do have to explain the one pic and my wife was worried the car wasn’t going to start. That is why she had that funny look on her face.

My nieces wedding a week ago. She wanted her papa's car there. Dad and I built this in the mid 80's, he passed in 2010. My son volunteered to get it ready and drive it there (200 miles) since it hasn't seen a bunch of road miles in recent years.

Our son wanted one of ‘dads’ cars at his wedding.
Then a couple of months out, he decided that he should have them both there.
The coupe wasn’t legal and the brakes weren’t really working, so he trailered it 700 km in total, just to have his bride driven 400 metres down the road into the venue in it.
The flathead sedan I drove the same distance, to do the bridesmaids honours.
The green street rod belongs to one of his work colleagues.
We had a great memorable few days 3 years ago and loved every minute of it.

Even found a few minutes to take my daughter for a spin around the paddock…….
