Hot Rods 6 volt voltmeter

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56don, Sep 20, 2018.

  1. Anybody know if someone makes a 6 volt voltmeter that would look traditional or at least look good in an old hot rod? Google was not my friend..

  2. I doubt that you'll find a '6 volt' meter unless you run across a vintage unit. A 12V one will work, it just will read lower on the scale.

  4. Nah, I have a 12 volt in there but the lowest reading is 8 volts, not much help. Every one I see starts at 8 volts.

but seriously, no one cared about volts back then, it was all about amps.

  6. If you're running a 6V generator, a ammeter will actually give you better information. Voltmeters are for alternators.

A 40 Ford Deluxe use a 6v volt meter but it was marked red-orange-yellow-green (or similar). Lots of 40 dashes have been used in old rods.

  10. I have 2 39 ford gauge sets, one standard and one Deluxe that have 6 volt volt meters in them. I have been told that it was an option but I don't know for sure. I've found them on ebay as individual NOS replacement gauges as well. A 39 ford gauge set always looks cool to me. and its a volt meter.
