Projects 1937 Plymouth Build Thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56 Dodge Pickup, Jan 29, 2015.

  1. Painting is done I have officially painted my first car! I will be changing the red wheels to cream next week, but for now I am very proud of this accomplishment. I would like to thank everyone on the HAMB for your interest in my build. I have learned a lot and made some new friends! As this build comes to a close I am proud to say that I did the work myself in my garage with help from some great friends. I would be remiss if I didn’t say Thank you to Larry for all your advice and guidance through out my builds. OK now onto the pics!

After another three hours of taping it’s time to go green!

  3. Thank you! I am very impressed especially for my first time. I still have to wet sand and buff, then put all extra stuff back on like headlights, mirrors and running board rubber but that’s next week for know it’s a great feeling of accomplishment! Hobo Jim

Jimmer---Really great job my friend. You can, and should , be proud. I can not wait to see it in person. You are welcome but believe me you have done this on your own abilities, ideas, and follow through. Hot rodding is about people and the friendships made over the years. Your friendship is all the thanks that I need. Hope to see you over the weekend.

  12. Thank you 64 DODGE I agree the color is definitely what I was looking for and it has a 30’s feel no metallic no clear coat just straight color. Kind of like the old single stage paint. I will post some pics when I get everything reassembled. I am planning on having some pinstripes laid by my good friend C B Zeke around the end of next month. Hobo Jim

ya know jim try leaving the rims red and do the wide whites first .

the white/cream rim will show brake dust like crazy and also wide whites and white / cream rim will be all white in the wheel wells .

just a idea ol buddy .

Paint the wheels with the green, add the wide whites and drive the hell out of it.

  17. I posted this over in the photo shop thread to say Thank you to The Moose, but I also feel it is very relevant on the build thread too. Here is the picture I gave The Moose to work with in a November of 2017.

Then The Moose went to work and gave me a visual motivation that I showed and looked at countless times!

Now the paint is done, the final assembly is done. I still have to change the wheel color and add some pinstripes, but this is how it sits tonight!

  23. Hopefully Saturday I was going to paint them tonight then it dawned on me I have to have the car out of the garage. And I need the wheels to put the car back in the garage. Saturday I can pull the wheels in the driveway then paint them in garage.

  24. Had an open garage pinstriping party Friday night. Thank you to all the a Great Freinds who stopped over! I especially want to Thank C B Zeke for coming all the way from Fort Worth Texas to hang out and stripe my car! I know that there are usually two colors in all traditional pinstripes, but I loved the color so much I just couldn’t bring my self to add another color.
    So here’s the pics.

  27. The wheels are cream! As this build comes to a close there are still small items to finish , but nothing post worthy. I do want to do a green pinstripe on the wheels to offset the cream. I like the cream wheels better than the red. So here you go here are tonight’s pics!

I have to add this picture in comparison to one I took a year and a half ago to close this build. Thank you all! Hobo Jim

Nice build HoBo, just wish I was that far along with my build. Nice paint, two tone is really the only way to go on these older rides.

  29. Thank you In The Weeds48 I spent a lot of time thinking about the paint scheme. I looked at countless pictures and I really like the two tone. My wife picked the green I was thinking burgundy, now I love the green. The one thing I really wanted was solid color with no metallic to give it the 30’s feel. The PPG Essential really captured that vibe in my opinion. Keep going on your build I really like the work you are doing on your 36! I’m Taking it to it’s first “finished”cruise in this weekend looking forward to seeing people’s reactions. Thank you again for all your intrest in my build! Hobo Jim
