Yes, my money is on it being a Packard chassis with a one-off custom body. In a way, it brings to mind the Topper Buick in general spirit. It looks like an interesting car that I have not seen before and would like to know more about.

Yeah, and our grandparents, parents, and all of us are dead because our cars had a single master cylinder too.

I don't know where you got this picture but it is the gasser legend Jack Merkel's fathers company. Jack started his engine shop in one of his fathers buildings. He eventually closed the shop and went to work for S and K in Farmingdale NY. Then around 70 moved out to another of his fathers buildings in Hauppauge NY were his son Scott Merkel runs the business. Jack died the end of last year. Scott just finished the motor for my 57 a FI 377" SBC I pick it up after he dyno's it.

  18. From post #165410, a rare one, a 1929 Gardner. Might be the largest model that year, the Model 130 on a 130" wheelbase and fitted with a 298 cid Lycoming flathead eight. Hamb p 5514 a.jpg

  19. I thought there was interesting mix of cars in this one and it was only when I tried to save this photo that I see that it was taken in Eritrea. From the cars there the date has to be late 1940s. There is an interesting roadster in the middle of the photo, with its spare wheel on the tail. I don't think the photo is big enough to be able to blow it up.

Looks like Jag XKE torsion bar front suspension. I prefer the old version.

This is Asmara, Eritrea . I have seen the picture elsewhere and found out then where this was. I was interested as my Dad was stationed there from 1954 to 1957. I was trying to remember exactly where in town this was but cannot. I imagine due that it is due to the American presence there that we see the American vehicles. There was also quite an English and Italian presence there at the time.
