The 23 annual Central New York Stock Car H.O.F. at Mid-State Speedway in Morris N.Y. The swapmeet was only myself and another guy but good stuff Everyone forgets M&H was an oval track tire manufacturer long before they built drag race tires. He used what he leaned about tire compounds in this type of racing and applied it to drag racing!
Most cars at this show are survivors or very faithful reactions. This Hudson coupe with a Twin H is a reaction that ran Mid State and the Southern Tier of New York in the 50's I will post more photos of the show and track time tomorrow.
It was fun hearing the"old timers" telling stories about the track- One guy was telling about in the late 50's or early 60's he said he was 14 or so and had the family 8mm camera, instead of filming the race cars during hot laps, he started filming in he words "the blonde bombshell" standing at the end of the grandstand. (Note arrow in the following photograph) He said the drivers must have noticed her to because three or four cars in a row missed turn one and road up on the berm and a fifth went up and over. The young lady was asked to please take a seat. I am sure this story has gotten better over years!
Some nice looking coupes there, that first Chevy with the big block is my favorite. Thanks for posting.
One more old timer story- Rich Ricci one of this year H.O.F. inductees had a great story. Mid State was always dusty. Rich told the story of losing a hundred lapper. The track was really bad with dust he got the lead on first lap and lead almost the whole race! The engine started missing with just a few laps to go. Rich had such a lead he stayed out trying to limp it home. On the 99th lap the engine died and he had to up in. There was so much dust the mag was filled with dirt! Rich was a Ford guy and ran 406s
I love those old circle track coupes. That is what got me into cars when I was a kid. I can still picture those coupes coming off number 4 turn getting the green flag! The images are forever burned into my brain. Gene
I took some videos as well. I will see if my mom will post them to her FaceBook deal so I can post them here.
