Went from 15" steelies, to 17" wires w/ Excelciors, re-chopped the w/s another 1.5" for a total of 3.5". Louvered hood w/ 25 louver sides, raised the front 1", changed the Q/C from 3:48 to 3:78, rebuilt the Zephyr box, and changed the ratio from 12/1 to 14/1, with bearings instead of bushings, among other things. All with the great work of Eli English, Tommy Caruso, Dave Simard, and Steve Pierce. Thanks guys!
That turned out very nice. Kudos to all involved. I would drive that until those Excelsiors were bald and start all over again.
Who would think that you could improve on the first presentation? But WOW, those changes totally changed the car for the better. That hood and lower top are just perfect.
When I got the car it had a simple top frame made out of conduit. My friend, Bruce Meyer, gave me a reproduction, original style top frame that he was not using. When I reinstalled the w/s, I elongated the lower hole, and leaned the posts back a couple of degrees. I wanted the front header to have an 'eyebrow', and we chopped the frame to fit. Steve also narrowed the middle bow to take some of the flare out of the top. I wanted to use a white material that looked like the photos in Don Montgomery's books, and Steve came up with a new material he found. I'm going let it age naturally, and not clean it.
It folds, but does completely collapse, but to be honest I haven't looked into it, because I like the look of it up.
It's amazing just how a few simple changes can transform a nice roadster into a real stand out in a sea of hiboys. If this car doesn't visually excite you it may be your eyes or you don't like traditional hot rods. HRP
I prefer the original wheels over the wires but really enjoy the other changes made. Really nice car.
