There is something special about saving good original welds. When I had the Lyndwood rail Alley Oop I keep the stick weld spatters that were stuck to it, they were there when it broke a National Record, and were part of the overall look of the car. Bob

Thats good to hear that the character is going to still be there.
When I rebuilt my 28 PU, I left some of the old arc welded brackets and rough torch edges from it's original 60's build. I could have easily cut them off and smoothed it out but I didnt because they are part of the cars history.

Seems pretty blatant about that being the whole point. So yeah, I’d bank on it as well.

  9. We are kicking another day tomorrow on the bird. The Dukes Car Club was started by Jim and his brother in law Lawrence in Austin Texas in 1955. The revievel of the Dukes is brewing!

It was a honor to blast away a 64 year old paint job done by Boots Fritzoff in Austin Texas. It fought me every inch to stay attached to Tweety.

Oh no! It needs to be restored to the way Art Tremaine built it

That hurts a little...hopefully they leave the exterior as it was...its fully hooded. I am sure you have some influence to these people as you are giving due respect to an icon yourself...fingers crossed...

Is the engine still in it? I again hope your influence however it is conveyed changes that direction. This Hotrod saw strip and street so a streetable version would see addition of front brakes which may be in that shack. If they go period with the smallblock that would make the transition more palatable.

    BTTT...this is Tweety's thread but it had a vintage visitor...;)...dusty survivors rock...fingers crossed...

@Tweety's Resurrection on another note what is the status of your uncle's former racers? Are you potentially considering revisiting ownership of any of these. Just being nosey Stogy...but you have shared a treasure trove of vintage gems. A big thank you your way for this most incredible story and thread...;)

To the right person this car would be worth a lot of money...as long as "the sons" don't muck it up. Better that they find a broker and sell or auction the car just as it is. It would be a travesty to change it in any way other than to restore it.

@Tweety's Resurrection I posted a Hotrod I am assuming is the same car but there are differences...were there more than one? I sight the windshield center top and the cowl tank seam is filled on the one you were looking at. My apologies if I have the wrong one.

Same car, Stogy. No question. Check the hood louvers and latches. Same car.

Not Sure there was a thread posted by @Ryan and it featured the hotrod above and also had the one I posted and there are differences @Jimmy B pointed out. Perhaps it's a mix of the two...

This one pictured has a single row of louvers but a smoothed cowl and wheel wells. You can't see in the garage rod if it has a rollbar and filled wheel wells.

One thing of note is the Tremaine roadster had a highly polished hood as well with no blister it seemed it also looks as if the trunk was polished.

The thread the two pics above were in...

This I believe is the car @Tweety's Resurrection saw...pic is circa 1949 by Jimmy's estimate.

    What an incredible find...

Same car again in later years stripped for racing. Too bad but this explains the lack of front brakes. The tonneau snaps on the doors are still in place in the garage photo as are the cut-outs in the belly pan for the tie rod, the unique hair pins and the long rear radius rods. Same car, three time periods. What a shame.

Here's the proof in pictorial form:

I hope there's a happy ending that's all I can say...I really think they had 2 or 3 versions...I look forward to the continued rapport on this.

Just another couple observations on this capsule...it looks to have had a late 60s or 70s makeover...steering wheel looks a little modern along with the tires...

Perhaps the windshield glass is newer made higher due to preference or upgrading to safety glass. Here is one more period pic. Tank seam is filled. Twin layer hood sides are correct however polished hood had no blister.

It had a body that lifted off of it. I think it was totaled at a race track. I'll check the status on the A model this week. LOOK OUT DAISY! Those Duke boys are back!

Kieth also found the same radio that Jim had in Tweety. Things are really coming together.
