That's downtown Wichita Kansas. 300 block of south Broadway. Must be around 1950.

  11. If it can sink on purpose and come back up, it's a boat. If it needs help sinking & won't come back up, it's a ship. At least in my Navy.

Lee might have flat-towed to the races, and required a plate.

First attached photo looks like Jim Rathmann with mechanic Jack Beckley after winning at Milwaukee in 1957. Owner Lindsey Hopkins is on the left.

And the next photo looks like Bob Sweikert at Terre Haute. Probably at one of the very first races held there around 1953.

The last one is also at Terre Haute and shows A.J. Foyt in #9 inside of Parnelli Jones in the Fike #1 in 1962. And that might be Allen Crowe in the #10. Notice that Foyt is running a Chevy in Watson's sprint car. Watson had given up on the 220 Offy by 1962 and had switched to a 305 cubic inch Chevy to be competitive again. And he basically sat out the 1963 sprint car season finally coming back with another Offy powered car when USAC allowed Championship engine displacement (255 cubic inches) starting with the 1964 season.

I agree. We did the same thing in NJ. It was definitely the hi-lite of any Summer evening. On more than one occasion a kid would run his bike into a parked car trying to navigate through the dense fog.

I miss our country's small town main street way of life. When we would go to town Mom or Dad would give me and my brother each a quarter and we would go to the 5&dime and buy a 10 cent bottle of model paint or tube of glue(not to sniff, to build model cars). The next stop was the drug store soda fountain and get a nickel cherry coke and a 2 cent pretzel. I would save the few extra pennies to put in my bank to go with my odd job earnings. Before I knew it I had the $1.50 to buy that next AMT model car of my dreams:D

I don't know who she is, but doesn't she look like the actress that played Laura's mom in the tv show Twin Peaks? The same woman played Susan's mom in Seinfeld.
