I've only named a few of mine. One old white Ford was named, oddly enough, Whitey Ford. An O/T family van was Van Johnson. And one that I never could quite finish and keep running right was Miss Take!!!

    Hello,

Our granddaughter always names her family’s cars. They are all not HAMB friendly, but the naming rights go to a little girl from age two to 13. An SUV called Betsy, a BMW sedan called Herman, another SUV called Jezebel, and a VW called Evie for an electric powered car.

That influence and a young girl’s urging made my wife named her latest car, Edward…It was as fast as a “Vampire Bat out of Hell…o.” It was not only fast in the “twilight”, but at all hours of the day and night. She is a hot rod girl at heart, just not in an old hot rod car.

    Jnaki

My cars always had names, but they were simple and to the point: The 40, The 58, The 65, (also: Alky = El Camino), etc. They were all HAMB friendly, of course. When we were twenty somethings, we got a hold of another 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. It was called "The Wagon," even though, it was not officially, a station wagon.

When times were a little tough in 1977, the El Caminos were sold and a station wagon named “Opie,” for a small, foreign country-made, 2 door station wagon was the daily driver. That was the primary surf wagon until is spilled its main seal on the freeway one night coming home from Long Beach in 1983.

This episode brought on 90k more miles and 10 more years, in a new, reliable station wagon, our first new car, since 1971. Again, it was called "The Wagon"... since it was an all-wheel drive station wagon.

My former 54 Chevy was named Ruby because she was Ruby Red. The current owner still calls her Ruby. I'm completing Brad, my 41 Plymouth that was named for my uncle who was a Chrysler Plymouth dealer. For some reason, I never named my 86Chevy Truck that I've had for 11 years.

    Hey R,

What a very cool looking convertible. The contrasting wheels with that color look great. My mom would have loved driving in that Buick for sure. It would have fit in with my dad’s long line of Buick purchases since 1946. At the time, he would have been driving a big, black 49 Buick Roadmaster as his daily driver. Both of those big Buicks would have been parked on the street as the rear garage was too hard to get in and out. But, driving in those big cars was really something.

But, the interesting thing is that in the early 1950s, my wife’s family, (her mom) had a 47-49 Buick Convertible as her daily driver. The reason I am listing it as a 47-49 is that someone said it was a 47, when it had 1949 written on the back of the photo from the family album.

But, the old photo shows my wife as a little kid and her mom, in the driveway of the old post war house in Pacoima, CA. (North West of downtown LA.) Great Grandma’s car was a Buick and the Granddad had a Chevy coupe for daily driving. Which do you think they used for the whole family on drives to downtown LA? (with three little kids in the back)

upload_2018-11-1_3-49-2.png If they had named the Buick Convertible, it probably would have been "Betty," for the famous pin up, Betty Grable.

My '40 has so many parts from so many different cars. My wife said the list looked like the alphabet. So we thought "Alphabet Soup" was appropriate.

I don't name cars, but the teller at the bank asked if my '40 had a name, so I replied, "Old Blue." She asked, "How come not Old Red?" I said, "Oh, c'mon, that would be too obvious!"

  20. The 56 has always had the name "Miss Taboo" since 1957 when the car became a custom. Original owner Ron Luch's dad named the car when he came out and saw Ron starting to tear the car apart to customize it. He got pissed as he was co signer on the loan for the car and yelled at Ron telling him it was "taboo" to be cutting up a practically brand new car.

My 33 Ford Pickup I named "Little Mouse" for a little stuffed toy mouse I won at a carnival as a toddler and gave my grandpa to put in the truck as its color matched the truck. its been hanging on the column ever since, now 25 years later.

  21. There has only been two automobiles that I have owned that had names.

The first was my old black 1965 Ford pickup and our twin daughters started call it spot when they were about 3 years old, never could figure out why they called the truck spot until about 6 years later they were helping me move a swing set from their grandparents house to ours and one of them commented about spot as she was standing in the bed of the truck.

I ask why they kept calling the truck spot and she pointed to the red primer spot on the roof where a mobile radio antenna had been mounted years before, eventuall we all called the truck spot and to this day that's how we refer to it.

The other car Brenda named, I was the old mordor 32 sedan, she called it Blackie. HRP

You guys know that most of the time, people will ask "What year is that?" I live for the occasions when somebody asks "What is that?" to which I reply "Loud, Fast and Dangerous."
