Hot Rods Later 1960s Style Model A (Advice wanted)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Nicholas Coe, Sep 7, 2018.

  1. Ok. So I painted my wheel centers black as the HAMB recommended. I love them! Do y'all like them? Now. Should I paint the heat shields to match the exhaust? I thought the chrome was more late sixties style? Kinda like the Corvette. Alright group, let me have it! Here's the Photoshop thread images... tapatalk_1536365085855.jpeg IMG_20180907_192729.jpeg IMG_20180825_193049.jpeg IMG_20180825_193155.jpeg

You did a nice job on the wheels, great practice for the heat shields. Bob

I'd lose the side pipes and use cut outs with pipes running under the car. I would also lose the air cleaners. Both are kind of late sixties look. But what is your question about an old fart and why would you keep it? When I fart I just move on, sometimes rather quickly!

I personally like your floor and most of the Wall Art, some's Old, some's Repop, But I agree with Fortunateson, dump the air cleaners and pipes, not real crazy about the wheels either, but I am an Old Fart, not saying I'm right, just saying I'm Old!!

Like the looks, darken the heat shields!

  7. I don't care for the side pipes either. I would run the exhaust under the car right at the collector and put a cap or cutout there on the end of the collector.

Yeah, I didn't want to go on and on but the cowl lights should be gone and I would look for some better wheels. I have a thing for stock wheels painted a contrasting colour, beauty rings, and baby moons. However, I have no advice regarding your old fart, just curiosity.

  16. Yes. I don't see many people that like the cowl lights. I think I will remove them soon. The wheels do look much better now, in person. Thanks for the great advice. IMG_20180405_195308.jpeg IMG_20180529_144346.jpeg

  17. Thanks for the compliments. Those stupid cleaners cost me around $400 on eBay. No joke. Those are a matched pair for early AFB size carbs with their original front screens. They're probably my favorite part of the car.

Would you recommend a different/older style of nut on the top of them?

Love your A-bone, but of course there are a few things I would change if it was mine.
    And since you asked:

Front wheels: It's not the style that bothers me but the width. I hate when the wheel looks wider then the tire (balloon tire). Would not go with a wider tire so I would have to change the front wheels.

Air Cleaners: Luv 'em just change to acorn nuts.

cowl lights/band and side pipes: Not deal breakers just not my preference.

Headlights: Big lights don't belong on '60's styled cars

Yes, black the heat shields, lose the side lights, go to Deitz-style head lights and lose a couple or three inches of elevation in the front end. Lots of potential here for a really slinky hot rod but the nose has gotta come down. Nice car!

So it's HAMB cool now to run radials on an open wheel car ? I guess times have changed.
10 years ago you have been ridden out of town on a rail for your street rod pictures

    My thoughts:

Ditch the ugly wheels for some polished Torque Thrusts. Front wheels are too wide, tires too narrow for that wheel, would look better on a narrower wheel, and with the sidewalls sanded, too much ugly writing on them. Rear tires look a bit short, need taller for more of a rubber rake. Chrome the headers, put a turn out at the collector, and run exhaust under the car. Cowl lights look better on a full fender car, lose them. A pinstripe of a contrasting color at the beltline would help. And put a top in! Looks unfinished without the insert.

Just my thoughts, which, with a $1.50 might buy you a Dr Pepper at a discont store.....

  27. Doing this is pointless. If you wait long enough you'll get a 100 comments about everything on that Coupe from the spreader bar back and I doubt anyone will notice the well done job on reversing the Firewall. Now, you take all those same people and line them up on the Curb and drive past them at 60 MPH. Nobody is going to be saying, he should change those Air Cleaners, Oh Man! he needs to loose those Cowel lights, Gosh can you believe he has covers on his mufflers? You want to know what they all would say, Wow Kool Coupe wish it was mine. So now the Old Fart Advice (I prefer to be called a Silver Back). Go drive the dang coupe because it's yours and you can. They all look good at 60 MPH and leave all those opinions standing on the Curb where they belong.

The man asked for opinions, so give him opinions. He's a big boy, let him sort them out for himself.
