That white Pontiac put a bump in pants..... I had a 62 Bonneville 2dr. HT. My sophomore year in school, for a while, it was lowered , white with a pinstriped flame job on the nose, moon disks for wheel cover's , silver blue interior, 421/automatic, and a 8-track tape player with a loud speaker mounted behind the grill and was usually playing "Slow Ride"
or "Low Rider" was too Kool for my school they all thought I had pizza pans on my wheels...."idiots"

I really like this Pontiac also...here is a group of pictures that I down loaded today... I normally just post stuff from my own magazine's but lately they look so dull compared to the colorful shots that you guys post so I found these while I was searching for something....they have a lot of color.... Sorry if any are reposts... 15361324945951224437.jpeg 15361328878111029234133.jpeg 15361330050871168935994.jpeg 15361330864591221002927.jpeg 1536132943912560282280.jpeg 15361333862482126348585.jpeg

You are more then welcome my friend, Was happy to pass on the information about John's car.

  13. So there are at least 3 correct?
John's car, the clone you built, and the similar car that was in KC?
I wonder where the other 2 are now?

This one, without the side-trim, is the only other I've seen.
(The side-trim sure makes a difference, as you have noted!)

    Big John Dunham's '62 Chrysler.
Those ribs on the deck originated on a '57 Oldsmobile, and extend through the roof.
Exhaust openings are '50's Packard light housings, and tail lights are '61 Buick.

Nope, virgina plates with frame that looks like mtns.

  18. Is Big John Dunham the current owner of this '62 Chrysler? The car was originally built by the late Elwood Dapp. He built the '49 Buick called "The Big Bopper" in the 80s, and then the Chrysler in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Elwood and Lois Dapp 49 Buick.jpg

I remember seeing the Chrysler on the 2005 Sled Scene East video after a fresh rebuild. A year earlier (2004) the car had an engine fire sometime during the weekend of the same show nearly destroying it. Blaine Kauffman made a point of saying how proud Elwood should be getting it back on the road after such a catastrophic event. Sadly, Mr. Dapp passed away a short time later in 2007. Here's a link to a discussion we all had over on the W.E.H.T. thread about Elwood and his sleds.

By the way Rog (@40StudeDude), those are Ohio plates on the Chrysler. The flamed license plate frame threw me for a minute too (lol). I wish it was here in Colorado as I would love to give it the once over! E

Thanx Ed...I blew the pic of the car up to see the license plate and at the bottom of the plate it states: "Virginia, 62"...So no Ohio plate and no ColoRODo plate...guess it's no wonder I never saw the car around here...!!!

Yes, Big John is the current owner, and resides in Virginia.
If I have my facts straight, he was friends with Elwood, and purchased the car directly from him, or his widow.
He is rightfully proud to own it, and the car does get driven!

  21. Whoops, I blew up the picture and saw the Virginia plates but I wrote down Ohio.
I was reading an article in a magazine about some old Ohio customs and I goofed.
Oh well, at least the record has been set straight (lol)! E
