  4. 71 to 74 Mavericks measure around 52 - 53 inches.

    The 75 to 78 Mavericks measure around 65 - 57 inches. HRP

  5. Can't tell you the measurements, but this is how wide a '74 Maverick rear end with 8 1/2" wheels is.

All Maverick 8” rear ends are 56.5 “ from flange to flange.

The narrowest of any 8” Ford rear end.

I'm sorry guys... knew that measurement. What I need is housing flange to flange measurement. Found a housing with no axles and I think it's Maverick, but can only tell if I have this dimension to compare.

I found one site that said 52'' to 53'' backing plate to backing plate. Not sure exactly where they measured from but this should be pretty close.

If the spring perches are still in place it should be 43.5'' center to center

Measuring one thats still assembled, looks like about 51" housing flange to flange. With backing plates still on can't be more precise, sorry

Very helpful guys... thanks! I also saw the 52-53" measurement, but was looking for exact dimension, so I know for sure. The 51" measurement is about what I was thinking. Thanks again!

Just so you know, the 7.5 (1983-1992) and 8.8 (1990-1992) from a Ranger pickup is also 56-1/2" wide.

Those can be found, stacked up like cord wood at most yards, in a variety of ratios, many with limited-slip differentials. Each is as strong, or stronger than an 8".
