They may have been an aftermarket item for the twenties and thirties. I found some discussion of them http://forums.aaca.org/topic/127161-trippe-speedlights-reconditioning-question/
They are aftermarket driving lights sold at auto supply stores in the 20's and 30's and 40's. Some had levels on the top casting, some did not. I had a set on my 32 Hupmobile.
Tripp driving lights, the ones with the bubble level on top are the large Seniors and fit the large Classics. Bob
I'd like to see a thread on pre-WWII aftermarket headlights, from weird E&Js and Woodlites, through less extreme ones like these, to the various '20s American drum-shaped headlights and the classic European Lucases and Marchals. In other words, that entire vibrant industry which was flagrantly handed over to the OEM suppliers' old-boy club by the 1940 sealed-beam law.
I am totally wrong, I didn't notice the bumper brackets for the accessory lights, I was comparing the Art Deco part of the light housing to that of the Cadillac of the time period. HRP
The lights that turned with the steering used on the big 30's Cads and Packards were called Pilot Rays.
