Doesn’t the drum slide off the hub once you chisel off some rivets or remove some bolts ?

I have AAA...Just for this. If your in a car, in a situation, ask for a rollback, & that one day will be worth years of Membership. Even if it just gets you to the next town with a shop, hotel & good night's sleep.
Sorry for your misfortune, I hope it works out.

They look to be married pretty well. I am guessing the studs may have to come out and some heat will need to be applied and some force.

Sorry for you difficulties. RockAuto says these vehicles used a 11X3 drum Raybestos # 2622R. I don't know if it is all inclusive and no guarantees.

You could probably run the narrow drum and get by if it’s the same diameter, the shoe will just be hanging out the back side , or cap that brake line off and drive very carefully back on one front brake

The studs may be staked in, you need to support the hub on the back side to remove them.
You can cut or grind down the staked in part, but you will want to replace the wheel studs. Any grind marks on the stud will cause a stress riser.

^^^^agreed. Or load up standard width brake shoes on the rt. front. About now, I'd be happy to be rolling and chomping to get back on the road. I'd cap off the front brakes and go for it. Assuming you're all interstate and leave plenty of following distance.
All this waiting around, you might as well rebuild the rear brakes and maybe some other things...

The only real traffic he will incur I believe is Lincoln, Omaha, desmoins, and then the metro when he gets home to Minnesota most those places ain’t too bad as long as it’s not rush hour

I’d risk it personally, but everyone has their own threshold for comfort ....I drove a 32 pickup 60 miles with no brakes home once ... so I probably ain’t the best judge on this one

  12. The oldest parts stores usually have the capability to stake drums, or a truck shop for sure. If you are by a big highway, there are lots of truck shops. You will probably going to need new studs, we never used them over on customer cars. If someone has a decent Dorman stud cabinet you may be in luck.

image.jpg I made it home. We were able to get the hub swapped from one drum to the other. Got it back together. Drove the 700 miles home. It feels good.

Awesome! How’d you end up separating the hub out of curiosity

  19. I'm glad to read of a happy ending. Car looks sound, and will be fun in the years to come.

That's a pretty clean looking wagon. Congrats on the successful memory-making roadside repairs and getting that barge back home!

Some more pictures of the wagon are in order...

I brought it to a machine shop where there was a press. Once the studs were pressed out the hub separated from the drum with one tap of the mini sledge.

Man, Im late to the thread. Glad you made it home.
If you were still stranded I've got friends all over that area that would be up to help.

For anyone in the area still paying attention, the salvage yard in Brule is B&J Salvage. Butch is one of the neatest guys on the planet. Still rocking his greased up DA hairdo His truck says " im not reliving the 50s, I never left" and that's no joke

There's just something about working through a problem no matter what it takes. 95% of people would have given up and paid to have it hauled on a flatbed. Good job, and cool car.
