Mark , thanks for your post. They're { TOOO COOL!!! } No one can top those. I also really like the old AMT 3 in 1 kits. Here's one of my old deuce roadsters. Sent from my SM-G920P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I remember building the "Go Mad Nomad", a Nomad version of this model. I wish I still had that one. Update: I just ordered a re-issue Go Mad Nomad kit from Staples, of all places, only $20.39.
Another favorite. I like the bubble top cars. Starbird's PREDICTA IS one of the best. Sent from my SM-G920P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
From a 2012 post I guess this should go in thread. I sold a bunch of older models for my friend Frank Morawski. Lyle Willits helped us to assign a dollar figure for the ebay listing. We found one model still in a shipping container that brought about a story from Frank. It seems that in 1959 frank wanted one of the new 1932 roadster kits from AMT. They went to their local Baltimore hobby shop to find they did not have one but they could order on so the order was placed with Auto World Enterprises. Frank found his model at another store before Auto World shipped his order. When the Auto World order arrived, Frank tore the end off the shipping carton to make sure it was his 32 roadster kit. The box got set aside until we photographed the box while going through his models for sale. This is what we found
..................I've had this 1961 Auto World catalog now for almost 58 years. If only the prices on models were still the same!
At those prices I will take two of everything on the list Back then I had to save up the $1.50 a quarter at a time and bug the neighbors to do odd jobs to feed my model car addiction. The 50's and 60's were truly the best time for a kid to grow up!
When you have a spare seven minutes watch this YouTube video. Great box art and a lot of fantastically built models.
(QUICK85) Im sure I'm not the only one to pause it on every model. That's a great find! And thank you for sharing it. Here's one of my old AMT Vicky's. Sent from my SM-G920P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
One of the coolest model car videos I have seen. Thank you for sharing. Sent from my SM-N910V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hey, wait just one second. I never received the license plate decal sheet I ordered from Auto World in 1962. Did Oscar Koveleski use my 30 cents to start up his Can-Am racing team?
I did pretty well competing in the model car contests that Auto World held in the early 1970s and I was 12-13 years old at that point. These were photo contests, so it fueled that interest too. I won several gift certificates from them ... $10 -$25 iirc. I have a handful of my old models that made the move from Illinois to Florida. I had over 100 built kits at one point, but they didn't make the trip.
Not really a model but always liked this old box art. The toy belonged to my father as a kid. Sent from my SM-J727T1 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Auto World was about a mile from my home in Scranton, Pa.......Oscar had a big racetrack inside the store where you bought the models,he sold lots of slot car items, I bought a 1/32 Chapparal slot car and lots of model cars for years..he let us race for hours, he was pleased to see us enjoying the track. Saw his real race car and sat in it a few times...what a thrill! Good memories!
A million years ago, when I was about 13, my dad’s mom passed. On one trip to town to work on the estate, dad and I stopped into the hobby shop he grew up in during the late 40’s and 50’s. The owner had passed away sometime earlier and as it turned out, his widow was about to liquidate the store and shut it down after nearly 40 years. She let us look all over the place to find stuff we might be interested in that had been in hiding forever. In the basement, I found a big box full of never claimed contest models. She let me pick a few out to take home (I wanted to buy the whole box but dad said it was too much LOL). I couldn’t help myself and picked out these old customs built in the early 60’s...AMT ‘57 Ford, scalloped SMP ‘58 Pontiac and corduroy tuck and roll AMT ‘60 Ford. Glad I never got around to redoing them as a kid. Haha!!
^^ Those are too kool to re-do. I'm digging the corduroy interior. I left a fave '63 Corvette at a shop after a contest because I was too embarrassed at being a loser. Just a crazy 12 year old kid, I guess.
Anybody have any GENUINE 60's annuals built ups or parts boxes, I'm buying! No re issues or later stuff, the real deal only! AND I know the difference! Revell parts packs wanted! Thanks!
