forbes2016edsel-adventure.PNG forbes plan2.PNG Jim, I held off until late in the build to ask about a critical item to pass inspection, the all important horn button.

in 2016 , the edsel adventure, it was a piece of 2x4 and a doorbell mounted it the center of the steering wheel.

In plan 2 it is on the column left side, you said due to column issues you had.
My 57 column sucked too and had to be replaced.

So how did you engineer it this time?

I still laugh every time I think of the edsel horn button

Looks like you just might make it!

You have uncovered what I consider to be the biggest hurdle in running points in a Hemi nowadays. Lack of good parts avalability. All the new stuff is junk. Now you will be competing with me to scarf up all the NORS stuff.

this one uses the horn button on the steering wheel, and it actually works. For now, at least. The Mopars had a much better contact system than GM or Ford.

  8. Uh........I put new wipers on my OT muscle car today.
Taxing my skills on THAT project.
    GREAT STUFF JIM!
    Man I envy your abilities.

Dang, I was hoping that dangling pipe-cleaner had something to do with it, in typical Squirrel fashion.
    Another off-the-charts build Jim, you're Batman! :D

I went for a drive this morning. It's 10 miles to get to town, 45 mph then 55 mph. I encountered the death wobble, after slowing down then speeding up. It only did it once. But I think it needs a steering stabilizer.

Also had some fuel boiling, or dirty needle/seat, for a little while. I took the air horn off the carb that was wet, it all looked ok, float levels ok, so I just blew out the supply passage and put it back together, and it's been fine since.

The gauges all work, I finally got the trans temp to go above 150. The trans cooler is pretty big, I guess that was a good idea. The engine temp didn't get over 200 till I was almost home, it went up to 205, which is fine. Steven made a fan shroud for it last night, seems to be working ok.

I only have 3.54 gears in it now, so cruising speed is under 3000 rpm. The converter slips most of the time in slow speed driving, can't really feel it shift. I'll have to get used to that. It's a 3500 converter.

I might need to wear ear plugs for normal driving, it just seems loud, even though there is no specific sound that's loud--just a big motor that makes a lot of racket. The mufflers are pretty quiet, even with no tail pipes.

WOW! 9 1/2 months since first post to driving to the store in that beast.

Your level of craftsmanship is amazing.
Hope you make it to Drag Week.

  21. I wear head phones all the time. I'm more careful.with my hearing now than when I was younger. They say it's not so much how loud it is but the length of exposure.

I bet it's loud! There's a Hemi in your lap and not an ounce of insulation in the whole car. :D

It seems like a lot of the DragWeek guys wear those big hunting ear muffs.

  23. You're lucky that some hooligan didn't "unpack" your chute for you in the parking lot at Merle's.

It looks almost docile sitting there at Merle's. We all know better, but you have to admire how understated your builds tend to be. You just put stuff where it needs to be... no flash required.

I for one am completely hooked now. I'm checking my phone like a madman to see what comes next!

Jim, Congrats on getting the car mostly done and under it's own power! Well done! I know there are still a bunch of things to sort out but I know that you will get there.

Thank you for inviting us to come along for the ride as you envisioned, designed, fabricated, built, and tested a race car from scratch in about 9 months or so.

I look forward to seeing the video of you unleashing that beast at the track!
