I have had a little accident that wacked my 66 long box fleetside and am replacing the box, while it is handy I want to put the gas tank back under the box. I have been looking at the LMC kit, anybody have any suggestions or tips on this subject. Would appreciate any input.

Not easy to find but the 60-66 Suburban gas tank (should be) a bolt-in.
I can measure mine easily if you need numbers.
You might consider one from a 67-72 also.

  3. DDDenny is right, not to tough to use a Suburban/Blazer tank but you loose your stock spare tire well if you go post 1966. You'll want to remove the spare tire hanger cross member and just fab up straps. Filler neck can either run up and out the side of the bed, or add a filler neck tunnel from inside an 80's van including the filler door on the outside. Looks factory after paint. Or get tricky and do the late 50's tail light trick that Mr. Denney has incorporated into his "too cool" suburban!

I'm pretty sure I posted this once before.
I'm using the original gas tank in my Suburban but used a partial replacement pickup quarter panel and relocated the fill tube (removed here) to behind the tail light.
Original 60-66 Suburban gas tank is formed to allow the spare tire to mount adjacent to tank.

Thought I'd try my hand at customizing...the hard way. I blew the back left tire at 70 mph on the interstate. Instantly lost control and went 180 degrees IMG_2935.JPG IMG_2978.JPG IMG_4822.jpg IMG_4824.jpg IMG_4827.jpg IMG_4829.jpg IMG_4830.jpg IMG_4840.jpg , hit the shoulder and rolled it couple of times. A lap belt saved my life. My lesson? Don't run on old tires no matter how good they look. Gonna do another truck.

Well, cool truck... but holy moly at the crash pics.

What sort of wheels are those? They look good on that body style.

I believe that you need some "fine tuning" customizing tools. The ones you are using now make to dramatic changes. Glad you are safe...
