What do you do about bugs? Wipe them off while wet or let them dry with the paint and color sand them out?

  2. I haven't painted a car yet but I have done a few bikes. The most on topic is probably this guy.

A late '50s tank, I was trying to copy the stock scheme but in different colors.

Cleaned up amazingly well for a 50 year old tank. Took me two years to get up the nerve to strip the original paint.

Pearl silver, intercoat clear, and the lines laid out
    [IMG]

    Graphics and cleared.

Then after a few days to set up, off to Safari Knut to be striped (along with the tool boxes)

    Final product

Here was the "booth" I was using. A fan in the window and air filters just out of the picture on the left.

I painted the car and flaked the roof. My buddy did the pinstripe. I'm pleased with the results.

For me it depends...if they're large enough to snatch with a sharp pair of tweezers, I get em outta there before they do a "snow angel" trying to get unstuck, but if they're little gnats, I leave em and color sand them when thoroughly dry. Fortunately, I very rarely get a bug.

Leave em in and pinstripe over them! Brings out the best in your creativity.

I painted my RPU in my garage. Hung a few tarps and converted half of my one car garage into a makeshift paint booth. Came out fine by me, but certainly not show quality. The RPU is now for sale by the way

I’m assembling my RPU now and did some polishing of the Washington Blue paint I shot in my home built booth last summer.
    (Pictures earlier in the thread).

3M Trizact foam discs with a spray bottle to wet it down. First 3000 and then 5000 grit.

That followed by 3 stages of 3M perfect it polishing compound.

Final paint was done in a booth but all of the primer and the interior was done in the garage...

I'll always do my own painting in garage. Cover up what needs to be protected and get some airflow to keep the fog from getting too thick. I like to leave large garage door open a few inches for airflow. I had considered sending this car out for paint due to the large area of sheet metal but my wallet choked! IMG_1410.JPG

Bugs in wet paint while you are spraying outside.
    ^^^^^
Put a sharp pair of tweezers in the watch pocket of your jeans before you start spraying! Actually stand them up in the watch pocket, so you can grab them quick.

  24. Why the last? It looks very good and you obviously know at least a little about what you re doing. Practice only makes you better.

I had the garage tied up for 9 months and let some other home chores slip through the cracks. The more I painted the better I did get. I am going to limit myself to 1 - 2 day projects.

  26. Understandable. I reversed your philosophy and got my planned Summer work done while I parked my '51 after wiring issues surfaced while driving it. I will catch up on the '51 this Winter and have it ready by Spring for paint. I hope!

IMG_0839.JPG this was my home paint job, with topside marine paint, painted with a (are you ready?) a ebay bought WAGNER spray system. the magic cocktail mix was paint, penetrol, and mineral spirits ! I did not worry about orange peel, I did not do hundreds of light milky coats as from the get go I was gonna wet sand and compound anyway.....I had a blast doin it..just to prove that ya don't have to spend bucoo $$$$$ .....

Hey chainsaw, how do you like the TP system ? I was thinking about going that route when I get to that point.
What did you do to solve your issues?
