I'm amazed at how quickly this is coming along. Wish I could do the same on my projects.

I think Jim is hiding a secret from us. He never sleeps! Just stays there in the shop banging away at getting things done. Thats why he gets so much done so fast! :D

Looks like you got some great help from the younger generation over the weekend. That's priceless and makes the whole thing worthwhile. Building a great car with great people. Cherish that time.

As always, totally impressed whenever I take a few minutes to catch up on your build. Thanks for taking us along and sharing your thought process along the way.

yup, great help! Dan ( my co pilot on Drag Week) has been over putting in some hours, too.

Started filling it with water, found the first leak....I guess that's progress!

The water pump leaked, we fixed it. Starter motor works at least a little bit, one tail light works, the horn works, the gas gauge does not work. It holds water now, but haven't put in gas yet. Still have to get one collector connected it's muffler, I want it to be kind of quiet when I fire it the first time.

maybe in a few hours it'll make some racket, we'll see.

    a musical interlude :)

well, sorry, no video, but it fired up and ran. Letting it cool off, then check some stuff, and run it a bit longer.

Unreal, I don't know how you do it Jim, I was just sure you weren't gonna even come close to being this far along.
After Drag Week is over and you have time it would be neat to hear some of the engine details.
    Have fun.

sure, it's a pretty basic blown Hemi, as they go :)

early 90s Mopar block (as far as I can tell), 60 over. Molnar crank and rods, stock Hemi journal size, 4.150 stroke. Ross pistons, 9:1, with deeper valve reliefs than typical for a piston with this compression ratio. Mopar aluminum heads, I think they are a few years old castings, they have Manley 2.25/1.94 valves, with comp springs and titanium retainers. The cam is a Comp roller, .670ish lift, 250ish duration at .050. Supposed to work well from 3500 to 6500 rpm. I got the rockers from Mancini, I dont know who made them, they are stock type with aluminum stands. The intake is an old Weiand, the blower is a new Dyers.

I put an internal pickup pan on it, although Brian assures me it's going to starve for oil, and he's probably right. I put an idiot light in it, so I can tell when pressure is getting low, although I expect that will be too late. Hopefully it'll all stay together for a while.

I don't know how well the chassis is going to work, either for street driving, or for racing. I plan to try to go for a drive tomorrow and see what happens, but I have few things to get done first--exhaust hangers, some fender braces, window straps, etc.

The wiring and plumbing all seems to work ok so far, no leaks or smoking wires. I grounded the sender to get the gas gauge working.

  21. I'm speechless....It feels like Plymouth probably took more time to build one of these than it took you guys!

Amazing Jim, thanks for letting us watch.

  30. Tackling a project such as this takes tools you won't find in any tool box. Mental and physical toughness along with a no quiting attitude are what it takes to be successful.
Having no fear of failure is also important. Taking a car you made out on the road and track without a safety net of any kind is truly the ultimate test. How ever it turns out it will be fun just to participate.
