Where da heck you guys get your bolts to mount a stock 8BA filter on Edelbrock finned heads? Or do you just get longer bolts and make a spacer?? Also, what is the little flat space with two threaded holes on left rear of Edelbrocks? It's Friday, dumb questions allowed.
Flowery Branch, home of the Atlanta Falcons training camp. I got my bolts and spacers (stainless) at Sears Hardware. I imagine Lowes and Home Depot carry them as well.
Or you go a different route entirely. When I mounted my power gen to finned heads I didn't want to have to mess with re-torqueing the nuts every time you remove the mount. I used rocker mounts to torque the heads down and dropped studs in them with acorns to hold the gen mount. You could do the same thing with a little machine work and creativity. These aren't the greatest pics but you get the idea. you can see that I needed to space the bracket over the thermostat housing.
Thanks both. Clearly those three tapped holes are to mount the filter, something odd, my Canadien Merc filter does not match these. So Shoebox is simpler, but Bandits may be way for me since holes match. Thanks.
'49-53 USA flatheads used 2 systems...one used three head studs, just like pre-1949 engines, others used 3 tapped holes in a closer cluster than the head studs and a filter with mount to match that. I have no idea what models got which, but likely this was to reduce people having to mess with torquing. I'm sure you could turn up one of those filter types pretty easily on here. Your head stud mount filter could probably be altered to that configuration without and rocket science too.
Yep, issue solved, my Canadian Merc 51 had 4-1/2 centers on top bolts, all I needed was a narrow bolt pattern filter....little did I know. The Edelbrocks are drilled for the narrow pattern. Still learning.
