Hello,

What is it like not knowing what color a car is because you only have a black and white TV? When we got a color TV, we were able to see what color looked like after years of B/W. That green, channeled, 1932 roadster that Ricky Nelson and his brother, David drove on the Ozzie and Harriet TV show was now live and in real color. The roadster has been showcased here on the HAMB years ago, but this version is the 1960 model.

By then, we had our driver’s licenses, had a car or two and wanted the roadster that Ricky drove on TV. Yes, it was not “his” roadster, but, the TV program made it sure seem like it was the "Ricky Nelson Roadster."

That roadster was one of a few showcased on a popular TV show at the time. We all related to the Nelson family, a mom, dad and two little kids that grew up to be big teenagers with their trials and tribulations. When we did see the roadster on an episode, that, was the coolest thing for a couple of hot rod kids.

At least, they were not portrayed as "hoodlum hot rodders." Even our mom, normally against all sorts of cars and hot rods, liked the show and accepted the fact that her favorite actors were a family that had a hot rod roadster.

The whole Nelson clan moved to the Laguna Beach, CA shoreline sometime in 1955. The Nelson Home was behind a gate guarded neighborhood. It is sad, but, the house in “Lagunita” was torn down in 1997 for the new owners. So goes the So Cal local lore and history.

Lagunita was/is across the street from the popular,(Dr.) Duke’s Family Restaurant, then, later, a Ruby’s Autodiner on Coast Highway 1 in South Laguna. The 5 years we spent visiting, serene, Victoria Beach, walking South, down the shoreline at low tide, we saw the house, but never any “famous” sightings. The small coastal city was definitely less populated and not as busy during those early years.

I was under the weather most of this week but was feeling better yesterday and got out for a cooler, very fresh, unbelievable August drive and yeah the color is all Mother Nature's basking all over the Ole Hotrod...priceless...
