WOW! Those are some of the clearest, sharpest pictures I've ever seen of the early trials. Thank you SO MUCH for making my day.

That's slide film, if I had to guess? Maybe Ektachrome or Kodachrome. Doesn't fade or wash out.

Yes Kodachrome taking with a 35mm Pentax.

  10. Seeing those pictures brings back so many memories.
I was at Bonneville in 64 for the first of about thirty trips.

Did your dad drive his black mustang for two years? My moms slides dated sept 1966 show Stan driving the White tortilla and your Dad's Mustang was there also. On her slides dated oct 1965 there were hardly any photo's from that event. The box that holds the slides say the 65 event was partially rained out so Ak and Jack Lufkin came back a week or so later when the USAC organization was having their event. Ak was driving the White Tortilla with no numbers on it.

It was actually out at Bonneville in 1990 or 04 or 05(can't remember what year) when I was there and it was running. In fact my dad and I pulled his roadster up next to it to take some pictures next to it and one of the guys on the crew got pissed at us for pulling into his pit. So cool seeing these from 1965 since I have a Pit Pass button like some of the guys in the pictures.

  13. Took me over an hour to go through those amazing pictures, I can’t thank you enough for posting them truly one of the best things here in a long time. I’m sure it’ll take me another hour to go through again just looking at every detail. Your mother had an amazing eye and Ak was an inspiration to many of us. My wife thought Something was wrong, I was literally staring at the tablet in silence for the whole time I was focused on the pictures.

  14. These pictures have got to be shared with Steve Coonan, would make a great article in Rodders Journal.

What great photos. Thanks for sharing. I was a junior in high school that year and had to wait for the issue of Hot Rod magazine that had the coverage of the event to see anything about it. I did the same for the Pikes Peak race but think more magazines covered it because of the sports cars that ran.

Thanks guys. I've had these pictures packed away in storage for years and wanted to get them posted before they fade away. I have a couple more years of Bonneville that I will post and some pictures of Ak's Pikes Peak adventures.

  19. It was pretty obvious from the first photo that she wasn't shooting 126 with an Instamatic. Did she do this professionally? She definitely had a feel and an eye for it. And someone did a great job of scanning those slides, too.

Thanks for sharing and keep 'em coming. :D

This tiny Eeelco streamliner is in the little museum located in the Nugget (formerly the Stateline) hotel in west Wendover.

The parking lot at the Stateline in 1966 might have had a nicer selection of original and hot-rodded cars than it has in recent years.

I'll agree with that all the way into the 90's ^^^^^^^
but the times changed and the in-thing is to take your rr out on to the salt for a photos shoot, get into a magazine or online and the hell with the racing...rr's are the show now,:eek: and the only reason for speedweek....:(:(

you guys notice how thick the salt was back then. looks like a driver could get stuck in it if he went off course.

No, but she was an artist. Unfortunately a few years later she did switch to the easier instamatic camera's. Worst of all, she preferred family photo's so many of Ak's racing photo's that were stored in the Kodak slide cassettes got trashed to make room for the family stuff. We had several years in a row of Bonneville and other events but only a few survived. I wanted to make these available for historical purposes before I lose them.

This is the one that I like, does anyone know if this car still exist and who owns it and if so does it still race? Redhead 1964 Bonneville (7).jpg Redhead 1964 Bonneville (21).jpg

That is the Redhead, and it's retired.
