I haven't missed the Shades of the Past in Pigeon Forge,TN since I was a little kid going with my parents. for the past 15 yrs, I have driving my '37 ford club coupe there. always a good time. coolpic.jpg 30715453_10213674157826677_1689712371301351424_n.jpg coolpic.jpg 30715453_10213674157826677_1689712371301351424_n.jpg coolpic.jpg 30715453_10213674157826677_1689712371301351424_n.jpg

  2. Good looking car, I've been going to the Smokey's since the Outlaw run in Gatlinburg,Tenn.back in the 7o's and then to Pigeon Forge but decided last year I was just burnt out on the run, sitting in a hot asphalt parking lot at Dollywood leaves a lot to be desired.

At our club meeting last Thursday night there was only 2 members planning on going this year, previous years we had 12 members that attended.HRP

when they had the show at the farm...It was a lot of fun. I usually just stay on the strip..I'm in no shape to go up and down the hills at Dollywood. I just turned 44 and had 2 strokes in the past yr. I usually make this trip..and just hang out on the strip.

And i can not stand the gravel vendor lot. O.k. enough whining , carry on.

  8. Might be there for a few hours only to spectate. Can't take the heat for more than a couple of hours. This "getting old" thing is not all it's cracked up to be.:(

The Shades used to on our no miss list for years. Got tired of no shade, hot sun, grid lock traffic and being ripped off by motels jacking up their prices just for the Shades. Still a good place too buy and sell cars.

  10. Probably my last year. Knees are going out, and the hot asphalt is a bitch. Maybe some cooler weather like last year. Planning on driving the finally roadable (?) 32 sedan.

A bunch of good food but outside of that its a tourist trap. Dollywood if you like rollercoasters and such. Music shows. If you have been to Branson, Mo, its the same. Enjoy the cars

  18. .............Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum in nearby Sevierville is well worth checking out. Smoky Mountain Knife Works is better than any Cabella's or Bass Pro Shop around. Snap a picture of the statue of Dolly Parton in front of the Courthouse in Sevierville. She's a folk hero in this area and has always been active in educational and women's causes donating many, many dollars to the place she grew up in. She donated a lot of her own money to help folks recover from the devastating wild fire near Gatlinburg a few years ago. You sometimes have to get off the beaten path or ask the locals about things to do and see. There used to be a huge swap meet that took place between Sevierville and Chestnut Hill with lots of petroliana stuff. Not sure if it still takes place or not. Have fun.

  19. Dolly Parton also gives each and every student that graduates high school a check in the amount of one thousand dollar encouraging them to stay in school. HRP

Check the schedule at Wheels Through Time before you drive there. I think
They are closed Monday/Tuesday, maybe even Wednesday

If time permits a trip to the Vanderbilt mansion was more than interesting. The grounds and craftsmanship of the home are amazing.

We missed Shades last year due to Hurricane Irma,so looking forward to the trip this year. This is our yearly vacation so we're in the daily driver. Will go to the Dixie Gas show on Thursday morning and then Shades in the afternoon and Friday & Saturday. Also walking miles on the parkway at night.

Haven't been since '86. Just wasn't the same vibe as the old Gatlinburg run. And as I get older, those parking lot deals don't have much appeal either.
