I recently bought a old hot rod body that has a ‘40 ish windshield grafted on. The windshield is the main reason I bought it and fell in love with it. Plans are to put it on my A chassis with 265 Chevy, ‘39 box, torque tube, and bullet proofed Columbia. Any one have more pictures of A roadsters with later windshields? I know the $1,000 ‘32 roadster built by westerguard was what first came to my mind, i think weesner sketched one. Any more? Typically what time frame was this done? ‘40’s to make the A resemble the new cars coming out? Thanks in advance.
Probably the most famous A roadster with a later windshield was the John Althan roadster, also called the Elvis Presley roadster because Elvis drove it in one of his movies. That used the back window from a 1939 Chrysler. https://auto.howstuffworks.com/the-elvis-car-hot-rod.htm
I think it may have been a cheap lazy try at a Duvall type windshield or perhaps it was hard to find windshield pieces back in the day as the repop parts were not readily available like today.. I had a 32 cabriolet body that also had a late model v windshield frame welded on the cowl
I know neither of these are exactly what you're looking for but they are a couple of my faves. I love your plan and glad you don't feel the need to take it back to stock as so many would! Tally-ho! This one is probably my all time favorite.
Here is the $1,000 ‘32 roadster. This was the first that came to my mind. I believe it was built in the ‘40’s. Could be a cheap alternative to the Duvall.
A moderator on here had a build thread on a Model a with a 1936? windshield frame. I don't remember if coupe or roadster. roadsters.com sells a curved ws and frame for deuces. I think it's a cut down super beetle
I’ve been thinking of doing a build thread I suppose I might keep posting updates here. Here is a pic of one of weesners work.
Bttt. For some reason this thread came to my mind, would love to see more or info when and why this was popular. Mine with a deluxe chrome windshield frame I found
Not sure if this was a roadster but it has a 40 Ford convertible upper cowl grafted to it. View attachment 5438777
When was it popular? I’d say never given the sparse amount of them we see why was it done? Seems most early modifications like this were made to make it look like a more expensive brand or fancier. Seems a safe assumption here I kinda like it better with the hood on. Super cool that you’ve got it on the road. Any build pix to share?
