History The Best deal you ever got on a Hamb friendly car or project

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Aug 21, 2018.

  1. I suppose the best deal I ever got was the Ranch Wagon, it was free!

But the best deal was when I paid 500 dollars for 2 1931 Model A Victoria's that I hauled home in a dump truck. HRP

This was all around 1966 to 68
$15.00 for a non running 57 Ford convertible that had a perfect body. sold it for $150.00
    $75.00 for a running 57 Chev 210 2 door. sold it for $250.00
$90.00 for a 61 Chevy bubbletop 283 3on the tree. Drove it for ever and yanked the engine and put it in my Dad's 62 Wagon and he drove it for another ten years . I think I junked the body.

guess that can not include stuff from Family while in High School: '53 V8 Merc for $35 from Cousin that drove it to So Cal from Minnesota, parents purchases for me; '56 Ford '55 Chevy '56 GMC PU '63 Buick Rivera - my best purchase was a '51 Ford Woodie in very good condition for $35, just missing a couple of important motor parts - later everything I bought was for a good price, put in too much money & time to end up selling too low

I swapped my '55 Buick Special for my present '36 Ford 3W avatar car The '36 was running, but need just about everything and I wanted a project. I figure the '55 was then worth about $14k. Didn't steal it, but close enough for me.

  11. All these guys buying cars in the 60’s and 70’s should reflect what that small amount should equal today.

    Here’s a couple recent ones

Last year I bought this 29 roadster at action for 25.00

I paid 5,500.00 for my 53 Sunliner convertible at the Spokane Swap Meet 3 years ago. Before buying it I was trying to figure out why it was so cheap. Talked to the seller and he said “I paid that 20 years ago for it and I just want my money back”

  18. I guess my best deal was when I bought my 65 Corvette conv for $2500. But...it was in a thousand pieces and had one of those shark nose front ends on it at the time. Still, I think it was my best purchase. I freakin' love this car.

I got this 33 Ford Pickup about 10 years ago for $500.00 with a title, extra fenders, extra roof, 40 ford dash, 32 ford dash, extra door, grill shell. My friend called me up and said there was a guy who had a 33 Ford Pickup, motors and transmissions for sale and the guy did not want to split it up and my friend did not want the truck. He wanted the mechanical stuff. I went to look at the stuff with my friend and we asked what he wanted for all the stuff and he said a $1,000 for everything. We told him the stuff was worth more than that. We would give him $2,000 .He said he needed to get rid of everything and he was fine with a $1,000. So I kept the truck and we split the $1,000.[IMG]

I have had a few in my day, the first one that comes to mind was in 1970 when I worked at a parts store in Grove City, Ohio stocking shelves and delivering parts. A kid that worked at a Sunoco station had a 55 Bel-air 2 door that he was trying to put a 358 in. His boss was pissed because it was parked on his small lot and told him to get rid of it, like NOW. He sold it to me for $25.00 and I had to get it out that night. I traded the 348 to a guy that had a 60 Impala that had a strong running 63 327 in it. I planted the 327 in the 55 with a M20 Muncie that I traded a set of Keystone wheels for. Made quite a few bucks with it on the street, had to sell it when I got my "greetings" letter from Mr. Nixon.

My most recent bargain was the 55 Buick I bought a couple years ago, it was from Arizona and come with a boat load of NOS chrome goodies. The bargains are still out there if you keep an eye out. DSCF3472.JPG

Before any one ask, the Jeepster in the background belongs to my neighbor, he traded a Harley Sportster for it. It is all stock and runs like a Singer sewing machine. He says its a keeper!

$75.00 for a running full fendered 33 Ford 5 window coupe. Bought it in 1958 and let a jack leg relative have it in 2002. Still in the family but I still agonize with the regret. Hopefully it will come back home before I die. $75 was a pretty good deal even back in the day. The best current deal was $300 for an F150 4 spd for my roadster. It was already modified for the banger and the closed driveshaft.

12 years ago I traded two non running mini bikes for a 1930 Model A roadster.
complete and the banger turned over.
Didn’t fit in the dang thing and sold it 2 days later.
