Projects Currie Ford 9”?

Anyone using a currie housing? Are the fabricated 9” acceptable here? What other options do I have. Sources seem limited around my area. Strange? Etc. Looking to go to about a 62-63.5”

I prefer Moser to Currie. Not sure why just do lol.
Both companies are great to deal with but I find Moser go that bit further to help you out and make sure you get everything right first time. Either company with custom make to what ever length you want.
I put a 9" moser on the Hudson build in my sig.

Sure cutting up diffs to suit the hotrod/dragster is traditional enough to be fine for the traditionalist police.

 

Currie did some excellent work for me a coupla years ago, for a reasonable cost.
I'd go back.
I know Moser also makes good equipment.
Pick what YOU want, not what you may think is "acceptable".

It’s not Currie but, I use Quick Performance for housings and chunks. I have had great service from them I know at least one of their guys is on here. I’m running a Currie housing in the back of my Model A that I am building. Easy to deal with and built to my specs. Would go with them again.

if a housing from an S-10 is acceptable...most anything else should be too.

 

Fab 9 and S10 stuff does not get a pass on the HAMB.
A big web 9'' would be all you need. Don't call attention to the OT stuff on your car and you won't come under too much fire.
Moser axles & nodular center section under mine.

 

it's refreshing to see that a few guys here don't even know what a fabbed housing is

mid 60s Ford half ton (five lug) Dana 60 would be a fun one....if you can find one. And it's usable.

It's been over 30 years since Ford built a 9" rear, so the supply in wrecking yards is getting scarce.

 

Remember that magazine article photo about Currie years ago, there was a pile of nine inch rearends that was nearly a half a block long, thats where all those went.

 

Yep, I recall it stating that Currie had a standing contract to buy any/all 9" rearends from all the surrounding Orange County/LA wrecking yards. They'd set them aside in a separate pile for Currie. Must have made it tough for the average Joe to walk in to an LA basin wrecking yard and expect to easily buy one.

As far as being "acceptable"; if your car is low enough, most folks will have a tough time seeing what's under it. The engine choice gets all the attention.

 

I doubt this car will be low enough.

Put a pontiac/olds rear in it, do it right

 

Quick Performance built one for me to my specs with .250 wall tubes and the early round back 9” housing. If they have any in stock they can build you one with the early center. If you are in the Midwest they are definitely worth checking out.

 

Portland/ Salem and surrounding areas. I’ve checked on a few. Either no call backs, wrong length, etc.

I am not sure where you are. I never have any trouble finding 9" Ford stuff.

Strange makes a housing that looks like a 9" housing.


I don't particularly care for a fabbed housing, I just don't like the look even on a late model. But they work.

 

I had a Currie rear in my Lark. Looked like a Ford 9 inch. Maybe it was a repro. i don't know. Worked fine and I was happy with it.

 

I have used a number of 9" units from SoCal, I think they are Currie. They have all proven to be a good investment.

 

John's Industries makes new 9" housings. My buddy has used them.

You would have to be pretty damned nitpicky to get down and look under a guy's car with a 9 inch and bitch because it had an aftermarket housing rather than a housing pulled out from under a donor rig.
I haven't tried them but there is a shop 15 miles from me that is said to do a pretty good job modifying axles and cater to the 4x4 and racing bunch around here.

I used Currie great product and service.

 

I went with Quick Performance for my 63 nova gasser drag car. Customer service was excellent, custom built to my specs, and the used a rear center section that looks like the originals. I've been running 10's to high 9's on it all season without any issues.

If you are not looking for a race unit a 8.8 from a 99-04 mustang is 62..5" and can be fitted with an E-locker. Open to locked with the flip of a switch.

 

I'v heard positive things about the 9'' housings and center sections from Speedway as well. Just another option to consider.

 

Bob, you're right, S10 stuff gets a pass.
But it it has nothing to do with traditional hot rodding.
Let's not sway the OPs thread. He's asking about 9" rears.

 

I think I measured wrong. I was doing it by myself. I actually am wanting to go 60”. The 60 “ Speedway Motors 9” might be the route I take.
