That's cool. It needs to come home......

  2. Indeed. I wonder how the man himself feels about that.

Congratulations to Steve Hill and the Original Builder @Dean Lowe. Steve drives it hard when given the opportunity. No dust on its fenders that's for sure.

Dean's glad he got it as far as I know.

  5. That's what the truck was built to do,Dean beat on it and the new owner does the same.

This photo has nothing to do with the article but a early photo of Deans pickup. HRP

He razzed Steve about it in poking fun way on a few occasions that I Have posted stuff on it. All is good I believe.

And credit to Dean in the pic is admirable as well...;)

That truck, to me, is the absolute epitome of a "timeless" Hot Rod.

January 1962 Hot Rod must have bought it just as I turned 12 years old. It is in the top draw of my file cabinet now. Bob

  9. You and me both, seeing Deans pickup on the cover of the first hot rod magazine I bought was a inspiration to me at 12 years old, I believe Dean's pickup on the cover of hot rod magazine helped infect many of us with the desire to build hot rods. HRP

You old guys...:D...I caught it on the reruns...;)...how late a rerun...the Hamb......definately a worthy contender with proven track record...there's actually another very similar Hotrod pickup in the UK that I almost mistake for his old one...

That's a tach on the column...not sure where the speedometer is but he knew how fast he went.

Third run a bit better...I think...sand is quite the base to race on...110 mph plus on sand is pretty up there...

I think the speedo is just under the dash on the right side of the column.

  16. It never had a spedo. I drove on the street by the tach. I knew what RPM the various speed limits were. I believe Steve is using an old Spaulding Flame thrower that needs a sending unit specially made for it. He knows how fast he's going by the GPS on his phone.
The B&W photo was taken the very first day my hot rod was on the road, Jan. 1, 1961. No interior, parts not painted yet, and running crappy, but I was happier than a pig in poop!

I believe Steve is a bigger media whore than I was. :D But, man, it's time to paint that bitch!!

That was fun, I may have to watch those a few more times.
I was 15 when that issue came out with Dean and his truck on it and like a lot of guys it made a big impression on me too. You don't remember every cover on Hot rod over 59 years of reading it but you remember that one.

Was helping a guy build a 30 closed cab a few years back ...tried like hell to let me build headers with the exhaust dropping through the aprons like Deans. He couldn't see ito_O

I think Dean was young enough that we could picture him as an older brother, a guy that could finish something.

Well dean, from the looks of the current one, you've still got that great eye for style and detail.

Dean as much as you want Steve to paint it everything attached to it is The Dean Lowes including the old winning paint...psssst...your Hotrod Royalty...;)...heck you got Hotrod coverage a number of times and your a decorated Winner...that's Media coverage too...yes your also a pretty darn Humble Man...but rightfully proud of what you accomplished and you know a heck of a lot about the scene...I can understand Steve's position.

Dean...your Hotrod pickup wasn't just any old barn find is what I'm saying.

From my standpoint it's an honor being amongst this crowd of the hierarchy of the sport and Hobby.

Glad you fellas have a continued rapport on things...and it's still got it. I can just imagine how happy that fella is...I'd say just like that Pig you speak of...:D
