hmmm... those ultra skinny fronts scream I used to be a rail.

 

That front clip really makes the truck!

 

Late '30's stuff is a lot heavier that the early stuff I've played with all my life. Had that chassis halfway off the ground and that garden cart axle (dump find)was just within reach. Not a planned move, having stuff in the yard is a plus some times. Bob

 

im getting ready to start on a 40 coupe project myself bob, what i found out was , stuff is getting heavier, or im turning old! think its the later! carry on!

 

Took over a month to get the frame in the basement, now I can clean the grease and dirt off it.

 

I'm trying to stop and do something every night other than walk by and look at the frame. This was under the factory paint, still have 3/4 of my first sheet of sandpaper. Bob

 

My body man asked me to help him find a 38-39 cab. He's got a nice frame and a nice 37 passenger car front clip for it. Still looking

I haven't seen that much floor in a long time. Next steps are making cross bars front & rear so the engine stands can be attached. Then relocate this shelf.

 

Man, you're getting a lot of input on parts and such. I wish the same were true for my project, but seems to be a scarcity of stuff for a 1929 Hudson Essex anywhere. You've got toooo much vintage stuff around!

 

This project is too cool! I never knew that a 38/39 car clip would fit on the truck, Really makes it look Great! I want one. I'm jealous!

 

Goal is to get the frame blasted and in primer by summer, building the cash pile to do that is underway. Bob

The deposit gets made next month so I'd rather not say until the deal is done. This is coming at the wrong time money wise for me, but I'll deal with it, woke up to a good eBay morning so I'm feeling good about things, one sale at a time. It is stone stock, and the year is 1911, and looked very sporty in its day. Four plug wires and a mag kill wire is a huge plus for me. Bob

 

Drove a 1940 Ford Pickup today! I've never enjoyed driving other peoples vintage cars or trucks, never want to be the guy behind the wheel when they brake. Had to run a stone stock '40 pickup around to see if it would overhead, that wasn't a problem, the death wobble was something really bothersome! The owner has another shop lined up to correct that problem. The cab was comfortable so if my '39 ever gets to that stage it should be a useful around town vehicle. Bob

 

The only really bad areas of the cab are on the upper cowl were they welded on tabs to hold the fenders on. Farm life must have been rough. Sloppy Jalopies parted out a rough cab and I got two nice sections I need. Drilled out the spot welds and now have rough door posts and toe board mounts if anyone needs them. Very slow progress, but progress none the less. Bob

 

August report: Frame is closer to the basement slider, may get blasted and primed before winter sets in. Made a path over to the cab in the garage hit the hinges with more Kroil. Got some grille parts on hold. Four real nice spring U bolts arrived a few weeks ago. Cab wood body block kit is the next logical purchase along with the bolt kit. Cab on a primed chassis would be a space saver. Bob

I can't believe eBay sales have fallen off like they have, and some of my listings are for descent stuff. Bob

 

When taking pics make sure you check the differences between the 38 deluxe and 39 standard , they look similar but I know the 39 hood can’t be used on the 38 deluxe as it’s a slightly different shape and I know the lower grill aprons are different

Got motivated after seeing this '40 at a local show today.
Decided to roll Dad's '31 out for its first wash since 2012.

Made three piles of stuff, keep, sell, scrap & dump. There may be a fourth pile for the wood stove. Lots of room for working on the cab now. Labor Day goal is to get that door off, scrubbed the floor, this is looking rather nice. Bob

 

Bottom hinge pin took some time, but no damage was done getting it out. Cleaned out the broken glass and some South Dakota dirt, has one wow in the bottom to hammer out. Really good solid door. It is in the basement now, have to remove the window regulator and other odds & ends.
