I believe this car was an entry from Mexico that was brought in to run on the salt flats.

That looks like me and my cousin when we were in the third grade, travelling cross country in the back of my dad's '56 Mercury wagon. I charged my brother a quarter to watch. After that, my aunt wouldn't let us sit together. True kissin' cousins, we were.

    Yes you are correct Paul
a friend called Ron Daw built one and he found a Vauxhall chassis out towards Ipswich and said the bolt holes in chassis were true to the holes in the bottom of FJ's
I believe he still has it ,he was also a mad Vintage Chev guy (34/35s) and he moved down near Nambucca Heads

  6. I believe you're close, I think it was a Mexican entrant in the PanAmerican Road Race in the early 50's.

  14. I'm not Gary, but I can offer some info on the Caddy.
It started life as one of the Cadillac "LeMans" G.M. concept car in 1953. Bought by Shoe magnate Harry Karl who had Barris customize it for his wife actress Marie MacDonald, it then changed hands several times and finally was lost to an accidental fire.

  15. This Corvette is a little much for me, and I really hate the wheels. That being said, I think a simple wheel and tire change would change the whole look of this car. Maybe era correct 5 spoke Americans and black tires, or better yet, chrome wheels with baby moons and 1" whitewalls. And lose the gold coves, maybe paint the coves black to tie in with the flames. 39273525_2090988267578221_7059925554488672256_n.jpg

They also used the hood bows of the Vauxhall Vagabond convertibles, they were the perfect size & with good proportions.

Looks like it to me, Jim. We'll see what Rootie says.

Woolley took over the ride from Johnny White when White joined USAC in 1963. White had been the 1962 IMCA champion so that accounts for the #1. The photo looks like it was taken at an IMCA race at Winchester in '63. Woolley ended up as the 1963 IMCA champ.
