Can’t say I’ve seen a cage on the outside of a race car before!

Thanks @engine138. Definitely much more to come. As for the cage - it looks like they were able to make it bigger and more solid and protective that way.

My good friend Jim Ireland's (@Irishjr) recently completed 1926 Ford with 354 CI Hemi shown here with Jim on the right and his friend and my new friend Jim on the left. Every year starting in 2013 I have gone for a ride with Jim in one of his amazing cars first during the Rodder's Journal Revivals and later Jalopyrama. This year there was no Jalopyrama so luckily I was able to go on my annual ride on a run to the supermarket in West Wendover to get more hot dogs and buns for the Hop Up party that Jim so generously provided. Like all of Jim's cars, this one ran extremely well and was very comfortable. Jim has an amazing thread of his and Jim's adventure going to Speed Week. Please check that out if you haven't already at: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/26-coops-trip-to-the-salt-high-sodium-diet-iv.1117323/

@Shutter Speed, I assume you are talking about the A with the umbrella. I saw that kind of thing a lot while I was there. Thanks Wayne (@Bowtie Coupe) , that picture, along with a bunch of others I took of Jim and Jim, are on Jim's trip log thread which I assume you have seen.

One thing I loved about Speed Week is that I kept coming across unusual things that I never expected to see there, like this nicely done '61 Dodge.

Yessir! Put them all in one chapter...Beach Party Gone Wild!

And I see what you mean about the atmospheric light giving an Arctic feeling.
VERY cool! And possibly (hopefully) a rare occurrence.

You're welcome Larry (@sololobo) - Thank you! @Shutter Speed - the light really made for some unusual and different photos.

A couple rod's from the hotel parking lot. I was following the orange '32 when entering the speedway the first day and you can see it stil has a bit of salt on it.

You're welcome and thanks @cajunfirehawk and @hasty. Wayne, I figured would have been along vicariously for the ride.

While I was trying to watch for cars making their runs on the track, cool things kept happening behind me with cars coming and going. I had my big lens on when I saw the Rolling Bones leaving in formation way off in the distance.

To give those who haven't been there yet some idea of the vast desolation of the place, look at the top picture of the motor home getting set to leave with this 1934 Plymouth. I spotted it just as it appears above with nothing around it. It was actually parked along the course where the actual entrants zoom by. I assume since this Plymouth has salt on its tires, they brought it to run around in without having to unpark the motor home. I really depended a lot on my car for this event, most of the time driving from one photo opp to the next.

Like you said Dan, distance is skewed. Everything is farther than it looks. Glad that you had a great time on the salt. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your photos. Many thanks,Snowman
